Do these cheapo cold air intakes that I'm looking at on Ebay make any difference in mpg, performance, etc, and are they safe? Im looking at the K&N ones for about 320, but these chinese ones are about 30 bucks. Im sure you get what you pay for, but I can't shell out for the kn one.

Well I will say this is one thing that people WILL give their opinion about. More or less every after market "cold air intake system" is a hot intake air system. Your truck came with one, the factory set-up, I would keep it like it is, Ford built it right from the factory. One thing the system does is add looks.

The one your looking at, being a chinese one, your getting your moneys worth, stick with what you have.

This is a decision only you can make for your truck, basicly just do your research and go from there. Your truck, you drive it, only you make the call on what it gets.

IMO I would use a K&N filter, why, because its washable and would save me money in the long run. As for givig a performance increase, I really dont know and dont care to much.

you can make one for like $80 bucks and if you want to know how to make one please pm me and i will tell you and here what i made ...

Your vehicle CAME with a cold air intake that will allow more air thru it than your engine can use! Them things are all scams! None improve anything. Unless you want more intake noise.. if so then you might like the sound they make. Outside of the noise they do nothing helpful for the engine. In fact they actually pass more dirt into the engine and pass hotter air into the engine.

This is a perfect example of a hot air intake.

+1

do yourself a favor and pop the hood, and see where the stock intake is pulling air from. Its pulling air from beneath the passenger fender. Now compare that with the picture that was just posted. He is pulling in hot, engine bay air. But it looks cool i guess :dunno:

So who has the "cold, or cooler air intake now"?

you are pulling more air but its hot air and thats why i am working on making a heat shield to effective us the cold air intake and pulling air from the head light too....

That would be be pushing..not pulling :icon_twisted:

last weekend i replaced my stock air filter for the winter months. it was i think 7 bucks.

The K&N was listed on the same computer screen at 58 bucks. wow! thats profit!

Oh and your truck comes with Stock from the factory with a cold air intake. all you have successfully done is create a hot air intake and makes the truck sound like its got more oomph. Its actually got less. Since the air intake behind the headlight is also taking air that's moving at speed relative to the truck (something like a scoop but not quite) and therefore more compressed as its going into the airbox. Air from inside the engine compartment will be at lower pressure from both the fact that its hotter air and the fact its more stationary air.

Used to just leave air filters off back in the carb days for that sound!

Pushing or pulling its still a method of getting MORE air into the engine.:icon_twisted:

Now if your building a show vehicle, I would do it. If its a DD not so much would I want to do it.
