Is there a compressor cut off for high temps?

Had the A/C charged last spring. blows cold but I've noticed under high load/temps the compressor turns off, then when the engine cools down it works again normally.

It will turn off when towing the boat through town with the outside temperatures about 100 degrees and the A/C on.

The temp gauge is always in the normal range, sometimes the upper half of normal though.

Is this an issue? Some sort of a safety feaature built into the A/C on the 4.0?

The PCM has the capability of dropping the AC via the WOT cutout relay.

I'm not sure if it's actually programmed to do that...

It's supposed to turn the A/C off at high throttle settings, but I suppose it could also drop it at high ECT sensor readings...

Interesting. Thank you!

I might have the pressure checked by the guy who charged it just to be sure.

I know on my Camaro if the temp rises above 200 deg F it shuts off the compressor and turns on the second fan... Then as soon as it drops below 200 deg it allows the compressor to come back on and the second fan shuts off... It's a vicious cycle if you're idling in the summer and it reaches 200 deg... Once it goes above 200 deg once you have no A/C until you start moving again...

Seems fine since then. I've used the truck quite a few times with the AC on in 100 degree weather and no cutting out. Must have been the extra heat generated by pulling the boat. Will go to the river after work tonight and see what happens.
