My custom rock sliders are finally done. Built ‘em in my shop class at school. Made from 2x2 .120 wall square tubing and ¼” plate. Used gread 8 hardware and rustoleom paint. Enjoy

Drivers side mount (one single long plate running about 3 feet)

The frame is not parallel to the body, this proved to be the most difficult task.

There are cutouts for various plastic holders and holes for an electronic module's bolts.

Passenger side mounts (they are separate from each other)

Drivers side by fuel tank. Duct tape covered tab is welded to a nut and slipped up beyond where a wrench could go (to top bolt).

Notes for readers: drivers side was a total pain in the butt to rig up a way to mount them and drill holes b/c of fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical bundles not to mention all the wish-washer locations of everything else. And did i mention that the fuel tank is on the same side, yeah good luck. The passenger side was a breeze there is nothing running down that frame rail and the only thing in the way is the cat's....otherwise i can get a wrench on every nut on the backside of that framerail. Another probblem was that the framerails themselves are not strait and your mounts will have to be cut at angles so that the rock slider is parallel to the body....not very convenient to try and figure out where to cut.

nice job, Just a hunch but do you have a stick for your 4WD?

You mean like a manual transfercase? No its all electronic-push-button-on-the-fly-crap with automatic (grenade) Hubs.

ps if you look real hard on the 5th picture you can almost see me in the reflection and the camera flash.

It is hard to tell but I don't think you capped the ends.

Just something I might do to keep water and mud out of there

With .120 wall tubing, I would add a length of 1/8"x1" strip along the bottom edge. I found rocks will dent them fairly easily without it. Looks good though :icon_thumby: Definitely cap those ends if you haven't already.

The ends are all capped off and water tight...the pictures just dont show that very well.

I've heard of people running some flat strap along the bottom like you said for dent protection and overall strength and would probably be a good idea since your talking from experience. But i didn't think of that until now. Live and learn I guess; that will be on my to-do list along with adding some more gussest. For now tho and for what kind of wheelin' i do they should hold up nicely ( i dont go out on the rocks and bash its not my style......yet)

Thanks guys for the comments.

I like them. Finally...someone does the style sliders that i actually like! lol. I hate tube!

When I do mine, they'll stick out farther than yours, probably shoot for approx 2" past the rocker, and I'd be using 3/16 wall 2x4.

Oh, becuase the company i work for has a F-150 with the same hubs as your hubs, I think, at least they look the same and it has a stick for the 4WD. I hear you on the push button, I hate it.

yeah the driverside is a mess of crap, when adding bolt on sliders. lookin good.

Looks good! Wish I could weld... lol

holy jesus!
plated the whole damn frame! thats one way to beef up the pansy ranger frames.

I welded my sliders on, just little 4x4 pieces of 1/4" plate. Tedious welding on the driver side, especially the 4th leg right next to the gas tank, using a stick welder shooting sparks everywhere. (had to use the fire extinguisher twice)

Those look real nice, good job.

yeah when in doubt just plate the crap out of it....holy crap i want to take my truck to a scale somewhere i bet ive broken the 4K lb mark. :icon_welder:

No wonder my gas mileage has gone from (stock) 15-20 to (not stock) 13-16.

And im not even done with em: if and when the truck is more rock ready ill be adding flat strap to the bottom of the rails and side gussets at 45degrees to support the long edges that are far from the frame supports.

i need a supercharger or turbocharger eventually......or a V8 maybe dunno which would be easier.

fxwannabe good choice on the thicker metal and sticking out farther to protect the rockers. mine arent really "rock crawling die hard your life depends on these sliders" type sliders but if you do anykind of real wheeling those choices will do much better than my setup. mine are like 50% function 50% show but will still offer protection to some degree. just don't winch me out by them .
