For swapping an Explorer 4.0 rad into a 2.9L, did you use the stock 2.9 lower rad hose or the one for the explorer? I was trying to price one out last night, and the ones for the explorer came in options like "heavy duty coolant" and normal. I wish I could remember where I saw the thread, but I though it mentioned using the Explorer hose because of the downward angle of the lower hose, but the rad in my 2.9 has the same downward angle.

So, stock 2.9 hose or get the Explorer hose?

AFAIK: You should be able to use your 2.9 hose, if your old radiator and new one both have the "downward angle" lower output.

I used a 2.9L hose when did this to my '90 Bronco II. Although a little close on the belt and AC compressor, it works fine. I can't remember which brand I used.

Prior to my Explorer radiator installation into the B2, I searched for and saved some posts from the old TRS on this upgrade. Here's what AlanD said about the upper hose back in a 2005 thread:
"As for hoses? I find the profile of the upper hose sold by CarQuest for a 2.9 is a better shape to make work with the 4.0 radiator’s upper inlet (offers better alternator belt clearance)."

When it comes to RBVs, the man knows his stuff.

I used an Explorer lower on my rad swap. There was two options, I cant honestly remember which one it was though.

I used the stock 2.9 hoses. Have to stretch the upper a wee bit but nothin serious .

Since we're on the topic too, have any of you swapped in the explorer fan instead of the smaller stock one on the 2.9?
