Just to let you guys know I really don't have a clue about body work, I turn wrenches. But this is what I've been up to lately.

Thanks to a fellow TRS member, I found a straight hood the same ugly color as my truck, and I also got a 3" cowl scoop from him. I plan to use epoxy, rivets, and fiberglass to attach the scoop to the hood. It will be painted between the lines in the hood with spray-on bed liner, and the outter edges left in Calypso Green.

I traced the curve of the hood onto a piece of cardboard the traced that onto the scoop

That's as far as I've gotten so far, I can only put an hour or so into this a day but I will post more once I get the scoop mounted tomarrow.

Wish me luck:icon_thumby: Any advice would be gladly appriciated:icon_idea:

BTW, for those who are curious. No it will not function as an engine intake, but it will be vented to release hot air from the engine compartment.
My reason, I'm going with a snorkel, and hate how flat the hood is.

well it looks like you got a good start going, from the looks i am asuming you are going to fiberglass it in to the hood? fiberglass isnt that hard to work with i think, as long as you take your time, and do some really good prep work. you can make it look really good

Got it attached to the hood, used 30min epoxy and pop rivets. I got all the supplies to lay the glass, but I'm waiting the 24hrs for the epoxy to completely cure.

I left my phone at home today, so when my buddy sends me the pics later tonight, I'll post em up.

I just started glassing a dash with some custom accents and laying glass is not as hard as I thought it would be. Prep your surface well and then wipe it down with Acetone. Also the Acetone can be used to keep your brush flexible for reuse - get the cheap brushes though.
When putting the resin to the glass using a stippling motion - almost like tiny stabs to force the resin into the glass - do not try to "brush" it on as the glass will pull apart and leave a lot of air bubbles.

You got a good start - keep up the good work and keep us updated - BTW here is link to my dash build . . . Good Luck

Here is the pics from todays work.

I positioned the scoop, then drilled the holes for the rivets.

I then flipped the scoop over, and applied 30min epoxy to the hood and scoop.

I then lined the scoop back up with the holes, pressed it together nice and tight, and put the rivets in.

Tomarrow, I will lay a thin coat of primer over the glued areas, because I've been told the resin will react with the epoxy. Then I will start lying down the fiberglass.

I looks crooked in the pic, but it's not

Looking good - keep us posted . . .

so you do know that the cowl scoop will draw air not release it at highway speeds right?thats why its called "cowl induction"

i made one for a datsun pickup in highschool of similar dimensions and when it rained you could watch the air and water go along the hood and take a sharp turn down and backwards into the engine compartment.didn't hurt anything though, the engine heat kept things dry.

please tell me your goign to cut your hood and not just put the cowl and not cut the hood.

your welcome dude. definetly keep us posted. coming along great

btw, lookin good man.. take your time and dont rush. I grafted a dodge ram super bee hood skin onto a dakota hood. Took a lotta time but it looked sweet

Thanks for the support guys.

And Rick, I know how it works, And at wheelin speeds of 5mph the venturi effect doesn't happen and the hot air escapes from the engine bay.

I got the fiberglass done today, but I forgot my phone at home today again, so no pics. I'll get some of the glass and all before I start the body filler work tomarrow.

looks good im going to do one for my 91 if i could find a extra hood
