93 ranger with power everything and the passenger window went down fine then just stayed down, passenger button doesnt move it and either does the driver side button. driver window works fine though, is it the window motor or something electrical??? any help pleaseeee its rained hard the past 3 days its been stuck down.

If neither switch works then ya it sounds like the motor has gone bad. Pull it out and test it without load to see if it does anything.

Turn your dome light on, and try putting the window up without the engine running. If the light dims, than good chance the motor is bad. If the light doesn't dim, then it could still be a switch (or wiring) problem.

the window went down so most likly the motor is fine most likly it is the switch to test the switch plug a test light in where the motor hooks up and press the switch if it light the the switches are good and it is a motor problem.

What happens to many of these motors is the gears. They are plastic, and with age deteriorate and fall apart. I have found some where the gears are crumbled into little pieces. When this happens, the gears jam and the motor won't turn, or the motor runs and doesn't do anything.. The motors themselves are fine. I think the parts are still available at Ford dealerships to repair the gears. If you get one from the jy, open it up and make sure the gears are good. The last time I did this repair, I went thru 4 jy units before I found one that was good.

The gears are also available from some auto parts, Advance being one, Pep Boys another. They are called "Window Regulator Gear Plugs," or window gear repair kit. Motormite (#74410) is one mfgr.

It is expensive if you have it done, and with new parts. You can do it yourself, it's not that hard. The hard part is getting the motor out. It is held to the door with 3 8mm screws. Two are accessable, the third is not. No hole was drilled for this screw from the factory. Look for the location of the third screw, it is the top one of the three if I remember correctly, and in the door panel you will see a dimple where the third screw should be. You take a 1/2 inch drill and drill a hole. You will then see the third screw. By working the window by hand you can then remove the motor. Take the gear assembly apart, repair, and replace in reverse. It is not hard, and it does not have to be timed. The motors start and stop with current limiters. Good luck whichever way you go. shady

thnaks for the help, the light dimmed when switch was hit and i cant move the window manually so im guessing its jammed, ill try to get it out and look at the gears. thanks again

Before you start pulling things apart and screwing something up, do 3 quick and dirty tests...

1) Unplug your P/W, and GENTLY take a test light and see if you are getting power to the motor. Use a paper clip striaghtened to make sure you dont damage the contacts.

2) IF you ARE, take a volt meter switch it to volts, and see how many volts you are getting in the up and down postion. Should be 12 up and 12 down.

3) IF you ARE NOT, see if power is getting to the pass side switch.
3a) If not, see if the motor gets power from the drivers side switch
3b) If it is, you have a short to ground on the pass side window motor.

If you wanna check the motor, hook it up to your battery and see if it rolls up and down. Agian, just cause it does DOES NOT mean it good exactly. Remeber, you have eliminated the load placed on the motor.

To check that its good and working properly, you should get 12 volts going into the motor, and 0 volts coming back out. To test that, take your volt meter, and place it on the wires going in and out, and operate the motor. Do this going up AND down.

PM me if you still have questions, or ask here.
