400M, C6, 205. Stock axles, but will soon be swapped out for 44/9 combo w/5.13's. Should be a fun little rig...

That looks sweet. What size lift ant tires you plannin on runnin?

I want to keep it fairly low, so whatever I have to do to get the dana 44 (fullwidth) to clear the engine crossmember, maybe 4-6" suspension, along with the 3" body lift that's already on it. And I plan on 36-38" swampers, whatever I come across.

what exhaust manifolds does it have? Any steering shaft interference?

I believe it has stock manifolds, and it is TIGHT to the steering shaft, but no interference. I'm away from it right now, but I'll get more pics of the engine when I get back.

That would be a fun truck to have, we have nothing but good things to say about the 400 in our F-350, it refuses to quit and seems to be a never ending source of torque.

Another plus is that the truck looks to be in good shape and not beat, should be a fun little rig that would pass about anything but a gas station.:icon_thumby:

It's got more than enough torque for that little rig, that's for sure. I'm kinda second guessing using 1/2 ton axles, though. The 9 is getting a spool and aftermarket shafts, I know it will hold up, but the 44 is gonna kind of scare me. I'm sure I'm right at the limit if I run 38's, which i really want to.

Oh, and the only way this thing will be going anywhere near a gas station will be on a trailer

I like to see 335 series engines in Rangers. I don't much care for the hood though. Also, that is quite a contradiction- Keep it low/36s?
The 44 won't hold up well to a 400 w/35s. At least it will take careful use of the right foot.
Good luck.

The way I see it, if the 1/2 ton shit doesn't hold up, I can upgrade and keep them around for another project. And why can't I stay low with 36's?I have a sawzall and I'm not afraid to use it. :icon_thumby:

Fun little ride u picked up. I think that's the same hood that's on my Ranger. Keep us updated with pics!

I can’t see the pictures. Did you put the 351m/400 in there or did you buy it like that? I know this is an OLD topic, but I am looking to do the same swap now, but into an ‘86 bronco 2.

Sounds like he got it that way.

400 is about the same size as a 460 or a mod motor if you want to get a guesstimate looking into swaps with engines of similar size
