Hi, new user long time lurker...

I just rebuilt the top end of my engine new head, new gaskets etc..
I'm pretty much done putting it back together , but i'm left with one nipple on the back of the upper intake manifold(see Picture), with no other ends I can find to connect to. If I leave it unplugged, truck starts idles really rough then dies, If I plug it everything seems to run just fine, i dont remember removing a hose or a cap on that thing, maybe my helper did, but didnt remember.

The truck drives totally fine with it plugged, but now im getting a check engine with codes P0133 02 sensor slow response and P0401(po) exhaust gas recirculation insufficient.

So far it doesnt affect drivability at all, I cleared the codes and see if they come back.

Anybody as a clue , let me know, Im obviously a hack!

So, this is on a Ranger 1999 3l v6
and it is located on the back of the upper intake, just below where the brake booster line connects to the intake

I looked on my 1999 3.0 and that appears to be the fitting for the EGR valve solenoid. Vacuum goes from there to the EGR solenoid mounted behind the intake, then a green(?) line runs to the solenoid. The DPFE sensor tells the solenoid to allow vacuum (metered thru a red line) to the EGR diaphragm to open and close allowing EGR gases into the engine. There's also a white line that looks like it goes to part of the evap system on the driver's fender.

Sorry for blurry quality, but you can sorta see the fitting under the brake booster in the pic, and how the green line goes back up and over the EGR. Basically your EGR system is disconnected and your DPFE sensor is flagging it from what I can guess.

The core support diagram seems to support my guess as well:

Sorry, but my phone takes awful pics up close, but I'm betting that's what your issue is.

I'll bet it's for vacuum.

problem solved!!

i feel so dumb to have missed that.
Thanks James, it was totally the egr vacuum.
I had routed the lines beneath that hose that comes out of the valve cover, so the elbow was hiding there, felt around a bit there it was ...Duh!
thanks again for the help!

Problem solved, Ranger ready to rock!
