I was talking to a guy last night that got to tour the Ford proving grounds in 2001, he had a pic of himself standing in front of a red Ranger. He said it was a 5 speed with a 5.0. They had also put a 95-01 Explorer front clip on it, I also found it interesting they had added the Ranger bodyline to the Explorer fenders.

I wonder if the bodywork was a potential alternate to the '98 refresh?

Anyone ever hear anything about it?

This wasn't some homebrew project like what we put together, it was an experimental built by Ford.

There was a couple ex front clip swapped rangers, I did one of them on my 96 lowrider ranger. I'm building another ranger (94 4x4) that will have a 00 ex front clip...

I remember seeing this as well (not in person). I believe Motortrend had a feature article on this as well back in the late nineties.

Never heard of the Ford "concept" deal. But I think they look really nice with a Mounty or Aviator front clip.

Hey 85, have you seen this done yet? I really really like this:

Here's a link to how they did it.... and it doesn't appear to be too terribly hard.

That fits the story, they had been released to the public in mags is why they were allowed to take pictures. They also got to ride in a big block SN-95 (94-95 judging by tail lights) they put together for a shootout with GM.

It fits nice, I like the look of the '07+ better though

It's a cool truck. I wonder where it is now.
Here's a link to the Motortrend review with quite a few details, but not enough pictures: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/ford/112_9608_ford_ranger_svt_v8/

Sadly I bet it got crushed.

That is what the new ranger should look like. Add a frame and it'd be all good.

It has more of a frame than any Ranger ever built.

Shane got us a little sidetracked, that is a 97-03 F-150 with a 07+ Expedition front clip. If I still have my '02 when they get to u-pull it age it might happen. :D
