(Video) Busy couple days...

Whew! Had my '93 Ranger on the operating table for the past two days, took off the valve covers and intake manifold for a good cleaning, ended up replacing a whole mess of other parts to get her running smoothly again... So far I've replaced:

Spark plug wires
Spark plugs
Distributor cap and rotor
Coil
EGR Valve
EGR Vacuum Solenoid
EGR Pressure Feedback Sensor
Temperature Sending Unit
Temperature Sensor
Thermostat
Upper Radiator Hose
Heater Core Hoses
Radiator Cap

...As well as various odds and ends, and some new hoses. Gonna put up a video of cold-start so I can show you guys a couple strange things still happening. When I first start it up, it idles high, then drops down really low, almost stalling out, then increases a bit and smooths out. It doesn't do this when it's already warm. Also, either it's misfiring or an engine mount is bad, because it rocks back and forth a bit idling, even as smooth as it sounds and runs. Finally, I have an exhaust leak somewhere in the vicinity of an EGR sensor, on the exhaust manifold. This was why I ended up replacing a bunch of those components, but it remains. Will also put pictures up soon, can't wait to show you guys the busted thermostat I found when I had it all torn apart!

EDIT: Video of a cold start from this morning. Note the smooth initial idle, slow-down to almost stall, then return.

UGster,

Sounds like you have been busy. I an about to replace the lower intake gaskets on my 1997 3.0 but are having some difficulty. Did you have any problems removing the lower manifold. The 6 bolts came out no problem, but the manifold is stuck. Any tips?

We didn't end up taking the lower manifold off, only the upper. It wasn't sticky on my '93, so either it's a bit of a different design, or it had been taken off previously. I rather gingerly smacked the bolt holes with a small hammer a couple times, that freed it up. Again I'll say, gingerly!
