Hey yall. Is there any good after market heads for the 4.0 ohv? I have a lifter tick that drives me nuts and figure if i gotta do lifters maybe i can get some nice heads on there too. Also is there any kind of a guide to replacing the lifters and/or heads on the 4.0 ohv's? Thanks in advance for your help! rock on :headbang:

2.9's typically have a "lifter tick"

4.0's generally have galled pushrod tips and pushrod sockets in the rocker arms.

you don't need to pull your heads to fix that problem.

When I had my engine work done last month, the guy told me there are updated heads out there that are cast with more material so that the resist cracking/warping more. When they pulled my heads they said I already had the updated heads. Not sure what brand they were.

It seems to stop after about 20 minutes from a cold start. Still pushrod tips/sockets?

If you're wanting performance, I can't help you. OEM style my son got a set from Clearwater Cylinder Heads in Fla ,also on E-gay as Odessa C.H. Ready to bolt on, cast in Austraila. Supposedly more meat where needed. Got both heads for almost what local auto parts wanted for one. Been on almost a year no problems. Both heads were cracked same :bawling: front cyl on left , back on right. Hope this helps. :icon_cheers:

found a ported and polished set w/ 3 angle valve job and they are "heavy duty" heads so have more meat on em. New performance heads ready to go. They are only $500 too.
