Hello Ranger Station. Long time lurker, finally signed up now that I have something to contribute. Of all the google-interweb research I've done over the past couple months, this forum comes up time and time again. Your tech section is really helpful (though, as a professional auto body man and painter, the paint and body section makes me cringe) and I've found some excellent knowledge hidden in the archives by members who've been there and done that.
About me, I'm a 6 year Marine Corp veteran aircraft Mechanic, from 1995-2001. Now I serve as Judge Advocate and Adjutant for the Marine Corp League, Motherlode detachment 1080 in the California foothills.
I spent 15 years employed as a body man and painter, did a few years before that detailing, service writing, auto sales and used car recondition management. Those were my bounce around jobs between the end of my tour, and the beginning of my auto body/paint career.
Nowadays, I'm self employed, I mostly sand blast and paint agricultural and commercial equipment. Maybe I'll post a few pics. I tried my hand at classic car restorations, and I did a couple last year, a 1970 Chevy C-10 and a 1969 Chevy Camaro, but I've decided that's not for me. I mean I can do it and do it with the best of them, but I don't enjoy the work, and its impossible to really make any money without a big time reputation and connections to rich old guys with money.
The rich, old guys I do know happen to all be dairy and hay men, and they don't need cars restored, they need equipment painted. So that's what I do, and it works out nicely. I can work part time (I get busy for a few months, then do nothing for a few months) and make all the money I need for the year. Pretty sweet deal I've stumbled my way into.
I'm married with no kids, but the wife and I are trying to start a family. We own our home in Pioneer, CA on a little more than a half acre, and that's the summary.
Glad to be here, I'm looking forward to eating your brains...I mean, picking your brains for every last morsel of knowledge I can consume. If you guys ask, I'll post up some pics of my projects, cars, equipment, etc.
If you want to know about paint and body, or sand blasting, that's my area too, so just ask, I'm more than happy to open my skull.
