I wanted to write a little about the Weber Carb thread that was previously posted because I just recently put the same carb in my 2.0 Ranger.

I bought my Weber Carb from http://www.carburetion.com/

I am going to navigate you straight to it: click Weber Carbs Conversion Kits Dual Side Drafts, then click Redline Conversion Kits, in the drop down menu find FORD and hit search, then find 86-89 RANGER 2.0 Asian 2bbl Carb.

Now this kit listed is $400 with an electric choke. I bought the same kit for $300 with a manual choke. So you can save some money if you don't think you need the electric choke. YOU MUST CALL THEM IF YOU WANT IT WITH A MANUAL CHOKE. YOU CAN NOT DO IT ON THE INTERNET. KEEP IN MIND THAT THEY ARE IN WASHINGTON SO THERE IS MIGHT BE A TIME DIFFERENCE FOR YOU.

The kit include the Carb, the manifold adaptor kit, Air Cleaner Chrome, linkage kit(I used the old linkage), the base gasket, and the installation instructions. THEY ALSO HAVE A FREE TECH SUPPORT LINE, IT IS NOT 24HR.

Now here are some things ran into: the manifold adaptor plate that is provided might have to be modified slightly. I had to elongate the holes on one side with a file slitly.
The studs on the manifold have to be removed they are too long for the new adaptor plate. (see the black arrow on the pic below for clearance issue)

What I did was I went to ace hardware and bought M8x1.25pitchx2"long bolts, with the threads the entire length of the bolt. I cut those bolts down to the size needed (DON'T FORGET TO PUT LOCKTITE ON THE MANIFOLD END OF YOUR NEW STUDS). I also bought a few extra bolts incase I messed up.

Now I also had to get an aftermarket FUEL FILTER. The new Carb has a hose nipple on it. So i bought; 2' of gas hose and a MR GASKET inline fuel filter.(see red arrow on pic below for fuel filter and notice the gas hose)

Now there is another modification i had to do for this because the hose will not fit on the FUEL PUMP, without buying a hose nipple to fit the threads or using the old hard line. I took the old hard line and cut off enough lenght for the hose to fit on, still utilizing the fitting for the FUEL PUMP, and using to clamps to hold it in place. (Refer to red arrow on pic below for detail of modified fuel pump fitting)

I am not going to go into much more detail because it is late and I need to get going. But I thought this might help anyone who is looking for an awesome carburetor to use instead of that PIECE OF CRAP ASIAN CARB. I love the new Weber Carb I got and would not go back to the orginal.

I was getting 20MPG and now I am getting 18MPG I believe that is due to the fact the Weber Carb is bigger than the original and you are missing a lot of the emissions. but the lower end torque does go up.I had a problem on the origianl Carb, the second lower butterfly valve would never open causing loss of HP. So this is definately in my opinion the best deal you can get.

Hope this was helpful

88 Ranger Carb Help

I have an 88 Ranger with the 2.0 and am desperately trying to get the carb right. I originally went through Timco Carbs and they had to build one from core. They did and shipped it through O'Riellys Auto Parts and I had Pro Max install it. However Pro Max said it wasn't built right and isn't getting fuel (like they forgot to drill or port something out). So I called Carburetors Unlimited in Auburn and they said I could get the conversion kit. I want to send my carb back and get the kit and Pro Max said they could install.....am I wasting my time?

WHY didn't you take it back to O'Reilly for them to send it to Timco Carbs? No Mo $$'s. Lettum fixit. You paid for them to do it, and apparently Pro Max says it doesn't work.
Get Pro Max to write down what is wrong, wander over to O'Reilly, and show them the note, ask them to get Timco to WARRANTY their work.
Do NOT spend more $$ at another place unless you are flush. Send me some instead.

When you did this swap on your 2.0 did you pull ALL of the emission stuff, smog/air pump, egr, etc?

My truck is having a lot of problems with all of this and I was wondering if this would fix my problems. 1984 Ranger 2.0 1BBL Carb.

Not sure about what Dan did to his, but I removed the old carb, air pump, emission stuff, and replaced it with the carb and intake from a Ford Mustang II 2.3 and it immediately cleared up all the running issues I was having.

Only problem was the float on the Motorcraft 5200 wasn't set right and would flood...once I figured that out it was pretty much trouble free driving for about five years.

So it can be done...I would be careful about removing the air pump because some places you can run afoul with the Clean Air policies...as I did...and they forced me to install an air pump even though they did not require that it actually worked...just that it was present...which totally mystified me and also cost me about $200 in parts and running around.

Dan is still around but working on a Turbo project for his truck instead of the 2.0...so maybe he has some parts to sell when his is complete.

Search on his name...click on the name in the post and a menu will appear with an option to find more posts by him...
