I have touch drive 4wheel drive and the 4x4 light won't go off

After that, and still no change, we'll look at the shift motor. The brushes that slide on the disc that let the module know where it's at get lost. This is because the grease hardness, and non use, such as over summer, worsens this. But when it doesn't know where it's at, it'll go into fail safe mode and not move.

I had the same problem w/ my '94. But my 4x didn't work. Ended up beig motor on trans. case. Put new motor on and problem solved.

sounds like one of the relays behind the dash are gettin stuck, just smack the dash a few times with ur fist and see what happens, also just make sure its in nuetral when u try to take it out of 4wd

my 1999 ranger 4X4 would go in 4X4 tn switched back to 2x the dash lights stayed in 4X4. I cheched the transfer and it was a cup low. then backed up and light went out.
