I have an '84 diesel Ranger with that weird horn button on the turn signal lever. The horn button on the lever broke off. I have looked all over the web for a replacement lever with no luck. I need a Ford part number to get the right one from a junk yard. Can anyone help me with a part number for the horn/turn signal lever? OR has anyone wired an aftermarket steering wheel with horn button (like a Grant wheel and button) to this type of early-to-mid 80's steering column? Just wondering if it is even possible.

Found the part number (E3DZ-13305A) and a few sources for the part from another Ford web forum. But I would still like to know if it is possible to rewire this type of horn button design to an aftermarket steering wheel (Grant) with a center horn button. I do not see how it can be done with out some kind of slip ring system to allow the wheel to turn without twisting a wire. Your experience and ideas are solicited. Can a later Ranger horn system be retro-fitted?

Also, sometime in the 1980's the Mercury Lynx apparently had it too because when my dad replaced the turn signal module in the column on his 1984 Escort, he grabbed one from a Lynx that had the horn. You mean like it telescopes into the column, correct? Might be easier to find a Lynx/Escort with this part in a JY so thoguht I'd mention it.

The idea of a late Gen. 1 (86-88) Ranger or Bronco II steering column is brilliant. Searching for one now....THANKS!!!

Just remember, you'll need the column complete with wheel. (or an aftermarket wheel)

I have no idea if the later turn signal switch and wheel could be retro-fitted into the earlier column. But it's also an idea worth investigating. Might be easier than a complete column swap.

I have no idea what Ford was thinking when they put the horn on the turn signal lever, instead of in the middle of the steering wheel, where god intended it to be........ Granted, lots of people mistake it for the brake pedal, but that's a different gripe.....

Ford brought the idea from Europe on the Escort / Lynx where it was evidently a common place to put a horn button. They put it on a bunch of models in the early 80's includig the T-Bird. Ford changed it back after getting a bunch of complaints from American drivers.
