Ok. I posted this same question on FTE with no luck. Hope you guys can help
04 , 4.0 5 speed
1. Now. when i first fire the truck it idles around 1500 then after about 2-3 min of running it drops to 1000. Is that normal?

2. While driving down the highway at 65 or so. If i let off the gas and push in the clutch the RPMs sit at 2000. I can coast like this for at least 10-15 sec with no change in the RPM.
Some times while driving thru town it will do the same thing while shifting
gears. Go to from from one gear no next highest and RPMs just sit at 2k or if i am below that RPM it will climb to 2k. When i get in to next gear it bogs the engine down as if i had my foot still on the gas.

Any suggestions? I changed the TPS, IAC, and have checked for Vaccum leaks carb cleaner. I bought what i thought was PCV and tried to change it(passenger valve cover) but it does not hook to the tube leading to the air intake hose. Some one on FTE said my PVC is under the intake?

Please help. This truck is driving me nuts since i bought it. No i dont have a scanner to run codes or check parameters

You can go to a parts store and pull the codes to point you in the right direction. Did you clear the computer when you changed the sensors. Disconnect the battery and go through all the wires, connectors and grounds clean/sand the grounds look for burnt wires then give it a good warm up then have them pull the codes and get back to us. It could be alot of things you need to start from the beginning.

Sounds like after warmup there is a vaccume leak, don't it? Warm it up and let it idle at that two grand and while idleing put some propane all around to find the leak. When the leak takes in the propane the engine will let you know how happy it is.

is it all stock? After unhooking the maf and IAC and cleaning them with the battery out, the computer takes some time to re-learn how it ran before. the first time i cleaned my MAF it was 2 week to get back to running right, also I only drive 2 miles to work so not a lot of time for the computer to do its think. I could be wrong I am not a mechanic but i did stay at a hoilday inn.

Its normal to have a high idle at startup. Even when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature when it is started it will idle high and slowely move down in stages. Its also normal to have a higher idle in between shifts....the computer does this to facilitate a smoother shift and keep the rpms from falling fast.

The fact that your idle is raising when you do push the clutch in sounds to me like there is also a vacuum leak. The SOHC engines are bad about developing leaks in the PCV system, especially in the rubber elbows on the pass valve cover side where it loops back around the engine. Check all the vacuum hoses/lines and you should find your problem.

I will check again tomorrow if it quits raining. But when the truck is idling in the driveway when warm the idle is fine, right at about 1000 rpm. It seems to only do it while i am driving it.

you know what mine idles kind of high also....i was wondering if i have a vacuum leak but i have never really looked into it. It only does it when i pull up to a stop sign or light and it idles around 2k also. I was wondering if this is just a ford thing?
