Tried to not be a noob asking well gone-over questions, and searched beforehand. My searches did not bring up what I was looking for, so hopefully I can find some help here. :icon_thumby:

I'm helping my buddy put a new transmission into his truck, and we've seemingly hit a brick wall. The truck is '90 Ranger, 2.3L, 2wd, 5 spd. We've installed the new transmission, and when we went to put the driveline on, realized that the transmission was still in gear. He forgot to shift the transmission into neutral before removing the shifter. Tried to shift the transmission back into neutral, and it will NOT budge, at all. Would popping out the lever have caused the transmission to stay locked in gear? If so, how hard is this to fix? The transmission was shifting before we installed it. No gear oil in it, and the clutch has yet to be bled. However, I don't see this being a problem, as there was no gear oil in it beforehand when we shifted it, and the transmission should move freely when the truck is not running. :icon_confused:

help?

Bleed and pop the clutch in. Sometimes they just stick in gear, putting the clutch down helps.

If it's fully installed, drive shaft and all, try rocking the truck forward and back while trying to move the shifter. It might just be preloaded from the drive train.

Unless you removed the shifter stub from the top of the transmission itself, then I have no advice to offer on re-aligning the forks.

pull the shifter out, and use a screw driver to move the fork back into neutral if it is moved into a gear, re install shifter.

How exactly do you do that? Pushed on the dowel pins, and they just slide right back in. :dunno: Anybody have a picture of what it looks like in neutral? Can't source one through google

EDIT: Was told to push in the clutch and spin the driveline to see if it was stuck in 2 gears. Driveline spun freely. So don't know where to go from here.

On a line parallel to the crank center-line, one side should be the mirror image of the other side. If that helps any.

Got it figured out. Misunderstood, and then figured out what fork was out. Popped it back and we're in business. Thanks guys!
