Well I will start from the begining, I rebuilt the top end on my 1994 ford ranger 4.0. New heads and valves, and after bad lifters, replaced thoughs as well. after the first start up I noticed a miss, when I drove it down the street and I gave it gas it just bogs and has not power. oh after the first head job I had to move to Cali. in a hurry and didnt get it finished, anyway it sat for 6 months with an empty fuel tank so maybe it could be a plugged fuel injector? Or is it likely bad fuel pressure? I put a scanner on it and the number 1 cylinder has a problem. I am running out of ideas and I am rambling, so any ideas? Oh and I checked, double checked, and re-checked the wires.:icon_confused:

Check the MAF, if you havent cleaned it, try it, it helped me with the miss and bogging down during acceleration.

Yeah, I tried that but it didn't seem to do the trick. The truck will idle ok (even though it is not hitting on the number 1 cylinder) but when I test drive it and give it throttle it just falls on its face. The fuel filter was changed before the rebuild but like I stated above it sat with and empty fuel tank for six months. Would that be enough to plug up fuel lines and injectors or filters.:icon_confused:

the spark plugs could be fouled. I also know from experience that the 4.0 sohc does not run well with any other plug than the motorcraft finewire platinum plugs (what came from factory) I had a problem with my dads 01 4.0 sohc idling and missing really bad. Changed the plugs from autolite copper to motorcraft platinum and it ran like a charm
