Heya,

I'm wanting to replace the y-pipe on my '97 4.0 OHV 4x4 ranger.

Online vendors have Y-pipes for 89-91 Rangers with 4.0 OHV's...but nothing for the later models.

Think they're all the same?

One I found had this under fitment

Type: Direct OE replacement
Fit note:
108.0 in. Wheelbase
114.0 in. Wheelbase
Before 12-91
Extended Cab Pickup, 125.0 in. Wheelbase

My truck's an extended cab (not super) and I think its 125 in, but dunno for sure!

The 91 y pipe has 1 bung for an o2 sensor just before the cat flange.

The 97 has an o2 bung in each down pipe.

Not to mention the flange at the cats is different.

"Extended cab" IS "Supercab"

On 4.0 Y-pipes,
1990-92 are actually the same Y-pipe as an '88-92 2.9
1993-94 have two HEGO sensor ports.
1995-97 have dual HEGO, but a different cat flange.

SOME 1995-97 depending on what emissions standard they were
built to may, MAY, have a small "pre-cat" in each downpipe.

Frankly if everyone is being dificult abut a Y-pipe there's always Hedman headers...

thanks for the clear up, guys!

I was eyeing the headers as well, but that kinda money would dip too deep into my wallet.

Guess i'm going to have to make friends @ Custom Muffler
