I would buy a salvage vehicle ONLY if i'm getting it for no more than scrap price and i'd have every single part from it up on ebay within the next couple of days.

well... example--->>what if it is a low low low mileage extended cab Ranger 98 or 99.... but all it needs is the front lights and some metal on the front clip....Runs perfect... Thats just an example though. Its like cookie_monster said, Insurance companies will total anything.

Would I buy a rebuilt/salvaged truck? Hell no!

Would I buy a basket case truck and rebuild it myself? Hell yes!

my ranger was 2-1/2 hours away from me so i decided to hell with it, if its no good ill use parts for a different ranger. it was worth damn near the 500 bucks i paid with only a bad wire and in need of matinence. damn electonic shifter made a click noise and wont work tho. my way of thinking if its good to use or for parts, buy it and if it doesnt work right save for another that works and use the broken one as parts. or fix one for a dd and another for a woods truck

Ive made the mistake of buying 3 different rangers that were rebuilt lemons, one of which I actually ran as a DD for 2 weeks then it blew up. Never going to do it again. Buying good stuff from now on. lol

it depends on why it has a rebuilt title. here in il if your car is impounded for dui or suspension and you don't pick it up the tower can get a rebuilt title if he has a liscense. my old boss got a 00 honda in late 99 the only thing wrong with it was it had a flat tire when towed in. it was never picked up by the owner.

if the price was right i would buy that. Maybe not as a daily driver. It can't be to much worse than mine was lol.

My Ranger was totaled for 12 hail dings on the hood. I bought it back from ins with a clean title, but in some states it would have gotten a salvage title out of the deal.

mine has salvage title, thats very common in honduras, salvage cars and trucks from the us end up here, being repaired and rolling again. mine had driver side door damage, the door wasnt repalced, they fixed it. only if u look with good attention u can notice it, because they used cheap paint, im gonna be repainting it some day. sometimes that is not the safest way to go, but is cheapest!!, u have to use good attention and observing skills to determine how damaged the car was, and how reliable the repair they done is, so u can decide if u buy it or not, and if its gonna have problems later, with the mechanic part

My 02 for what it's worth............

As stated above.........it don't take much to total a 90's or earlier vehicle nowadays.............I've purchased 2 in my 34+yrs of buildin & drivin cars/trucks, never had any trouble out of em...............I generally don't keep my toys stock, so the cheaper the purchase price, the better from me......

As they say, "To each his own"!

Funny that such a thing should be brought up...

Couple years ago as I was cruising through the junkyard up at college I came across an 89 Eddie Bauer Bronco II in decent shape. When I asked about it in the office I was informed that it was to be crushed within 2 days. I tried to talk them into setting it aside till I had some money for parts from it, but they said either buy the whole thing, take parts now, or it will be smashed. They said it would be $250 if I took the whole thing. So after giving it a close inspection and playing it it some (wouldn't start), I handed over the cash. As luck would have it, since it was to be crushed, the title never got transferred over, so I got it with a clean title instead of a salvage title. Long story short, made friends with the owner of the yard who let me use his shop to work on it. Patched it up with a lil help, drove it for nearly two years, got it nearly completely fixed and sold it for $1,800, then was hired by the new owner to finish repairs. After I got done with everything on the truck I took it for a test drive around the block... and promptly wished I wouldn't have sold it cuz it ran an drove like a new truck.
