Working the clutch- ankle or knee?

It's been a while since I've driven a manual as a daily. But I think I'm all knee... maybe a little ankle at the bottom.

my son's car is a focus st and i had to drive it a few times this weekend while we were trouble shooting things. it has those super fancy factory recaros with the huge sides and edges to hold you in place and sits at an angle that is kind of odd, i guess since its a super sports car. anyways, it requires lots of ankle shifting and feels really weird compared to the ranger, or any other car i have driven thats a stick. its like you are right on top of the pedals, but you are not. the steering wheel is the correct amount away and the shifter is right. its just the pedals feel so weirdly placed. its a 2014 and an st1 so its not got any pedal moving buttons

Sometimes I must use my hand (don't ask).

You guys are making me glad my Ranger is an automatic. My knees aren't shot, but they aren't the best either.

When I seriously started Ranger shopping, I would have preferred a four with a manual. The best Ranger I found and could get my hands on, the one I got last year, had the 4.0 SOHC and auto. Now I'm glad I have that combo. To hear you guys talk, my knees are glad too.

Oh, the Ranger clutch isn’t bad at all. If you’re on the taller side the steering wheel kinda gets in the way but you adapt. Now my F-150 with a stage 2 clutch or the dump truck or my dad’s 79 (no hydraulic assist), those are a little harder. I was driving the F-150 for work for a couple years on a bum hip until insurance finally approved surgery. Towards surgery time it would have me crying trying to do it. Ranger feels like nothing compared to that. I still have trouble if I try to daily drive the F-150. My choptop clutch is much easier for me to drive, but it’s still hard to DD. I don’t blame the surgeon at all, I blame insurance screwing around more than anything.

I use a little hip-knee-ankle movement in my D21, and keep my toe pointed to the front of the truck.

I actually paid attention to this after this thread. I do both. I use the knee for most of the push, then toe down the last lil bit. The pedal sweet spot is between the ball of my foot and where the toes start. That way I can flex my heel up and down as needed.
