Woohoo! I got a flat...

I picked up a screw driving home from a bike ride today and am wondering how big is too big to be plugged? The screw is about 1/8" maybe 3/16" in diameter and is in the middle of one of the lugs.

That doesn't sound too big unless some severe steel belt damage occured. The last one they couldn't fix on one of mine had a hole big enough to put your thumb through!

My truck is a fully enclosed cab; granted its a four door, but still.

Wait...I was refering to my truck not my bicycle, the bicycle is fine (I keep extra tubes in my pouch just in case.)

Actually the correct way to repair it is a patch on the inside (plugs are only meant to be temporary, and definitely are not as reliable long-term).

I had a 3/8" x 4" long bolt penetrate my tire once, had it patched, and was fine.

Anything 1/4" or less should be fixable. Unless it didn't go in straight. More of less, the prefered is actually a plug-patch. Its a plug with the patch attached to the end.

I wouldn't exactly call it a victory, but its my first. Seven years without a flat, driving 50miles each way to work for a while.

Go to wal-mart and buy a plug kit. The kind with the sticky yarn. I keep one on me at all times. I've plugged dozens of tires over the years for anyone that asks. Do it right on the car at the gas station next to the air hose if the tire isn't completely flat.
