wont stay idling

i set the valve lash because of it sounding like a diesel. it runs smooth now,but it wont stay idling now. it did idle before with the valves out of adjustment. any ideas would help.

First thought.. You didn't get it all back together.. A vac hose or something was left off..
Second thought. One or more valves were adjusted too tight and you have valve leakage...soon leading to valve burn if not already.
