I recently purchased a 1991 Ranger and the woman I got it off of was a complete pig. The interior is an absolute mess. So needless to say i'm tearing it down complete to take parts to the carwash and pressure wash everything. But I am stuck with taking the main dash panel off. I removed all screws and it's completely loose. The problem lyes with the wiring harness. Is there a way to unattach it from the dash without breaking the clips that keep it in place? I notice there is a big round connector that attaches thru the firewall. Am i able to disconnect this at the firewall? or does it not come apart. If so. I can then remove the dash with harness in tact and remove harness afterwards. Thanks for the help if you have any.

really have me at a loss as to why this is necessary...i would just powerwash it at this point. then hose it out with electrical contact cleaner and waterdisplacer

the little clips can be aided in removal with small pieces of tube or sockets pushed on the nipples and then worked while you hold the socket against the metel till they pop off.

look careful at the harness plug, it should be self explanatory.

i wanted to take it apart because it's not driveable at the moment. and i am changing the carpet out for vinyl before i put it all together. cleaning interior panels is the last step before i can throw it all together again. Plus i'm afraid water would hurt electrical components. no? You're talking about the big round White connector right? i don't really see any tabs like you normaly would for a connector to be removed. unless they are little and around perimeter.
