Well today i decided to wire in a push button ignition. I got it working but at the moment its more of a novelty item because you still have to have the key in ( before you knock it, no there was no reason other than to say oohhhh look what this button does and it makes the truck go vroom vroom and i had some time) I want to figure out how to make it so i have to switch a toggle then use the push button to start it without the key. No theres no reason and yes its stupid but it will make me happy if you guys could help me out. Im not an electrical genius so any help would be greatly appreciated. Again heres how i want it to go; i get in the truck i flip the toggle switch to the on position and i am now able to press the push button and start the truck. The toggle switch is so i can have it so it turns on without the key but i can hide the location of the switch so without prior knowledge you cant just walk in and turn my truck on. I know its stupid and im probaly gonna get some shit for this but just need some help.

one thing u need to do is brake the lock on ur steering wheel because u will still have to use the key so the lock doesnt lock up the first time u turn the wheel then with a mutimeter u will wanna find ur constant power aka ur gauges and stuff not to sure exactly which ones they are. sorry if i wasnt much help.

you need a wiring diagram of your ignition switch and you will want more then one toggle, most likely two maybe three. one switch can't handle the current your ignition switch is a gang switch more then one contact point. remove your colum and take it to some one who can break it down and remove it for you or get a breakdown and diy. don't "break" your lock. special tools required though.

fused constant HOT..........to toggle switch.............to pushbutton..........to starter relay................now modify your keylock so your steering wheel works without the key....problem is--alternator & gauges won't work!

That's why I relocated the ignition switch (the actual switch that has all the wires attatched) to a spot under the dash...that way -- I push a knob that clicks the switch to the run-position so when I use the pushbutton to start the motor--the gauges & alternator work correctly also. Since my truck is a '36...I used a throttle-knob on the lower dash to engage/power-up the ig. switch

(for entertainment purposes only...don't try this in real life!)

Disabling the steering wheel lock is not hard at all. I think I could probably do it in 20 minutes, most of that time would be finding tools.

Basically what you need to do is find all the red/blue wires and the yellow one and string them all together on one side of the toggle, and put the battery positive on the other side. Let me do some poking and I'll see if I can be a hair more specific.

If you wanna get real trick I saw a guy rig up a pushbutton that you didn't have to hold. You simply clicked it, and it would turn the starter over until the motor fired. It used the tach signal wire to tell the setup that the motor was running, plus it would stop trying after a second or so if the car didn't start.

you guys....a dozen different ways to do the same thing.... :yahoo:

so....ads....if'n I do the red/yellow/red/red wire combo-thing, I dont even need the springloaded OEM ignition switch?

all I need is a flip-switch to supply power and the throttle knob to push the button behind the dash. that engages the starter relay...

is that what your sayin?

Thanks for your guys help but i still cant understand any of it electricity is not my thing at all
