Wouldn't be me without waiting until the last second... and turns out something in my computer is not up to par with the requirements, wouldn't be like Microsoft if they told me what was not good enough so here's my question... What am I missing to keep the update from working?

Ram is 4 gig, looks like that's the bare minimum, looks like $25 for some name brand memory to get me to 16gig

Processor should be fine, it's an Intel I3-4170 3.7 ghz

Storage is fine, still have 230 gig of hard drive left...

It's a 10 year old Lenovo, can't be too bad, I don't do anything fancy... I'm used to windows 11 from work, just been putting this off

I'd go Linux but not in the mood to learn, not against it just don't know where to start or how it works

The compromise junk they want to push to get security only updates for another year are NOT ACCEPTABLE, there is no friggin way I'm using onedrive, I hate this cloud garbage, it royally sucks at work... and I have a sneaking suspicion my current 1 mbps internet wouldn't make doing ANYTHING fun... I think I'll have better by spring but still, no clouds (insert Abe Simpson meme...)

It could be your system is missing or does not support a TPM, that is required for Windows 11.

For a computer running the Microsoft operating system, 10 years is an antique. You may have to break down and buy a new computer. Good luck.

I've been getting the update warnings for a few moinths now and have kinda peeked at it --- not excited at all. One Drive seems to be an option though. I have used it before for transferring large files and for remote access, but bleh. I know it's going to be a PIA. I have 11 on my laptop and do not like it.

I series 8th gen and later is the minimum.

I've been using 11 since the Beta, with some tweaking it doesn't bother me. I do understand the hate it gets though.

I’m in the same boat, Lenovo laptop and it doesn’t meet specs to upgrade to 11 plus onedrive can suck one…

Rufus is great for making 11 work in places that it shouldn't.

Every one I've done still gets updates. Even the Athlon 64 x2 laptop I bought in 09...

I had an I5-4570 desktop that I did that way and it still keeps pace with my current desktop. (Intel Xeon W-2145 Processor, 2GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666 Mhz, 512GB M.2 SSD NVMe Drive, GTX950) I haven't been able to throw anything at either one outside of gaming that it couldn't handle, but I don't edit video either.
