Winch bumper finally done!

Yeah, 200lbs + of winch and bumper will do that.

I am planning on plating back along the frame rail past the crumple zone with probably 3/16 or 1/4 eventually. I need my truck though so I cant tear that far into it at this time.

I am trying to think, the bumper is train proof, next I beef up the frame some. After that, what is the next weakest link? Body mounts?

yeah i wasen't real happy when i saw what my winch does for lift.

i plated over a foot back too, to spread the load and because the bolts kept slipping under heavy loads

after working at a body/frame shop for a few years my take on it is this-the bumper has to be weaker than the frame to absorb damage(thats why most new stuff is all plastic and foam for bumpers).a strong winch bumper moves the weak point to the frame.there really is no way to change that, just avoid strong impacts or go to the frame shop afterwards.my boss warned me that the accordian frames are hard to straighten though.your truck would need a crazy amount of reinforcement to make the bumper the weak point again.

you should be fine just don't let all that steel go to your head, the rest of the truck is not indestructable.
