Wilwood 8.8 - Making it work?

Putting disk brakes is typically all the upgrade most have gone for. Second you should get measurements and call them I know they have catalogs full of calipers for special applications. Decent chance they have one for what you are looking for.

the backing plates are gonna be his issue....

What have you done with the front brakes? If you're this concerned with the rears, I assume you have at least 13" Cobra brakes up front.

The Explorer rear rotor is, IIRC, 11". On my '94 Cobra the rear rotors are only 11.65". Not much of a difference.

I believe North Racecars makes a bracket that will allow SN97 cobra rear brakes to be mounted on any 8.8. You may want to check them out.
