will this fit

If you have a 94 4.0 Explorer then it will not fit. If you have a 94 4.0 Ranger, then it should fit, unless you have the FX4.

no it is a 2wd ranger, what is the difference between the explorer rear end and the ranger

Ranger= 28 spline axle.
explorer=31 spline axle.

Yes it will work. But damn 3.08 gears on an auto :eek:

yea it is a dawg on the highway
what do you guys recomend for a gear set

that diff will fit any 8.8/ as long as you have or put 28 spline axles in it

thats not a 31 spline diff,its 28

Excellent sleuthing :icon_thumby: You claimed it would fit in any 8.8 as long as you have/put 28 spline axles in and you can't put 28 spline shafts in a 31 spline housing.

I would swap the entire rear axle whole, it's much easier (and often cheaper) than replacing the gears and/or diff itself, and can be done with common tools.

Replacing gears is an intricate process that requires extremely tight tolerances (and lots of special tools) to get the tooth contact pattern correct (the gears will self-destruct in 1000 miles or less if it's off by more than a couple thousandths).

3.73 8.8" axles (many with the Ford Traction-Lok L/S) are probably the most common rearends Ford ever used in 4.0L RBVs. Should be pretty easy to locate one for a good price. 4.10 8.8s are fairly common as well.
