Width vs Height

I'm not sure if anyone would have an answer or not but...

If the rule of thumb says a lifted Ranger 4x4 can handle a 33x12.5 as the largest tire, if you go with a more narrow tire, can you increase the diameter/height of the tire? To an extent?

This is going to depend on a lot of factors; year, lift height, wheel backspacing, etc

A narrower tire will be less likely to rub when turning, but again it just depends.

The maximum tire size usually refers to the amount of pressure the axle shafts can handle before damaging them. The larger and heavier the tires are the more stress is put on the axles and with to much the axles will break.

In theory you could but if the axles wont handle them you will be playing with danger.

So as mentioned before it will depend on the axles you have if they will withstand having a larger tire. I can mount 45's of my 2wd if I had the proper spacing on the rims but moving it would be a whole different story. What axles do you have under your rig? Ring gear size (7.5 or 8.8) and axle shaft spline count is what we need.
