why?!?

my tires both spin in reverse, but in drive the right one spins.....

in reverse it's easier to break traction.

as for the right tire spinning, given equal surface conditions under each tire, the right will break free first because the left side of your truck is heavier.

No worries, I have the same problem. It's a small 2wd truck thing. Once we get our Rangers properly lifted and geared up it will probably stop, then when the guy with the stock fullsize talks crap you can show him up on the trails. My buddy drives an 05 Silverado and he's always talking crap about my truck and high and mighty about his, he's never taken his on a trail and mine goes on one almost every day in the summer.

I'm pretty damn confident that my truck will go more places than his will. Sure, his can GET to more places. But mine will go more places. Mostly because I'm not a pansy that wont go through a mudhole. Besides, I have more ground clearance and better entry and departure angles. Well, maybe just entry.

if you've got limited slip it's just as good as many unmodified 4x4 drivetrains, since they often have open gears on both ends.

2 wheels of traction is 2 wheels of traction.

No, that's incorrect. An open axle gives exactly equal power to each wheel. It's either both are getting it, or none. As long as you don't slip a wheel, they are both doing equal work. With a 4x4, since the axles are geared together, you will have a lot harder time slipping a wheel. Also, the front driving axle has a lot more weight than the rear with an empty truck. A front wheel drive Ranger would be superior to the RWD Rangers in traction because it's 1,000# heavier over the drive wheels.

A 4x2 with a locker is nowhere near as good as a 4x4 with 2 open axles. I've experienced this many times in the 12 years I've been going up into my woods for firewood to heat my house, with a variety of vehicles. My B2--heavier in the rear by far than a Ranger--won't go up my hill in 2wd with a locker and 31" mud terrains. Every other stock 4x4 would easily go up in 4wd--even when my B2 had it's stock 205/75-15s and 2 open axles.

i was actually referring to mud and ice situations, where loss of traction is when, not if.

secondly, i was trying to make him feel better.

:headbang:
thank you for the inspiration to hit that mud hole like it was a hot girl!!!!(reminds me of a certain sig on someones profile:D

you obvouisly wheel the truck and do it well... just tell them to put up and shut up, take them out whelling and show them how it's done... i did it with the ranger after i bought it, my Fn Fullsize guys teased me about the washer shrunk lil pickup i drove until i followed them out to the feilds then left them stuck only to laugh from the road... it turns out the ttb front axles are extremely fexlible and alot of gas behind 30" mud tires will get you through alot..10% truck 90% skill, go gettem....

You cannot deny the truth 4x4 is much better in the shit, stock or not, i bet if you took off the rear driveline and ran it front wheel drive itd still outwheel any 2wd. If you want to go trail riding with your friends just save and get a 4x4 not because they make fun of you but because of what your doing in it its a heck of alot better, i drive in the snow all winter i couldnt imagine not having 4x4 stops and takes off 100% better sometimes i put it in 2wd just for the heck of it you hardly touch the gas and it just lights them up slam back on my t case stick and away i go like on dry pavement.

scott get new friends that will treat you like a friend you have what you have and you enjoy it so the hell with them and when they call you wanting something tell where to stick it and as far as small trucks go i would perfer a small rig you can go in and around trees and other things a lot easier than a big truck dont get me wrong i like all trucks all colors and all sizes and scott i would go wheeling with you any day you just might have to drive me to parts store when i tear my 4x4 up doing something stupid enjoy life my friend and pay the truck bigots no mind

I know u r still paying for the truck, but you can get a cheap 4x4 ranger or bII off of craigslist . I just got a 88 ranger 4x4 xlt ex cab for 800 . and it runs great.

i went wheelin this past weekend with my buddy thats got a k5 with a huge lift and huge tires. he was laughin at me at first cuz he thought my little ranger wouldnt be able to hang but i went everywhere he did with my 285/75/16's. he just buried that thing cuz its so heavy and i just floated across everything. sometimes its better to have a smaller more nimble truck. the big trucks sink alot faster. lol

got ur fix challenge to a drag race ( on approved course u dont want jail time) and if you still want to mud do like me hit it as hard and as fast as you can youll tear crap up but hey i have kept up with yotas on 38s when my truck had a 3 inch static drop

UGH! I know!

I'm constantly getting made fun of with my "Ford 2WD"
Even when I pick them up from being broke down, everything.

I've gone mudding with it, and did better than the Silverado and RAM, because of the small width.

It's retarded.

When situations like this arise about my Found On Road Dead Bronco II, I just let it do the talking by taking it out on the trails with all these Chevy, Yota and Jeep drivers and watch them get stuck trying to follow me.

But then again, it does have lockers front and rear. :secret:

what rangers can do in 2wd

i had some boys talking trash about all fords but my mostly stock 01 ranger in particular. pissed me off. silly toyota boys playing in the mud. i finally gave in and hooked the Ford to a 2006 toyota tacoma running a lift kit and 33s to pull him out of a hole. hooked the chain up and gave it a little test tug. nope the yotas stuck good. backed up enough to get a running start stomped the gas in still in 2hi didnt need my 4x4 yet and my truck promptly ripped his class 3 hitch completely off the frame of the truck and bent his frame. thats what a detroit locker super swampers and a Ford built high torque motor will do to a toy truck. the toyota boys stood there in disbelief then i heard one of them go "holy shit.... i dont think a taco an do that guys Those Rangers are nasty" the whole town heard about it within hours and i still cant get anybody to get into a pulling contest with my truck. and its a chick magnet now lol. give it time man one day the little Ranger that could will amaze them and the shit talking will end
