Why would anyone buy a Toyota?

You come off sounding like a union agitator with all your anti-Toyota posts.

Why are you here, exactly?

Obviously not to learn about how publicly traded corporations distribute profits.

The next thing we will hear is how the Unions are saving American jobs...... :annoyed:

BTW I work for a non union plant, we don't demand employer match, they give us dollar for dollar 410k match, and give us profit sharing(when there is a profit) The hours are not flexible, but you get plenty of vacation, I get about 7 hours per month, and other perks for good attendance(which equal more time off, some with pay)

Paid holidays(six of them) usually 40 hr work weeks, with a normal weekend. Even paid plant meetings on how Unions are the scum of the earth, and they will ruin our business and isolate us from our company....I agree, when you get these perks, who needs Unions?

Get my drift, Unions are only needed if the company treats the employees like shit. Ford is mostly Union, Toyota mostly non union, again who treated their employees like shit?

Once you go Union, and the tactics Unions use(those stupid cards) to con a plant into unionizing, it's over, there is no way to go back, unless the plant gets sold and the new owners kick out the union, but then how will you be treated?

ragajungle,

I have not met one person that hasn't been happy with the reliability of their Toyota. I find a lot of people complaining about their Volkswagen, Dodge, Jeep, Chevy or Ford. I'm not going to post Ford horror stories I've found on the internet because there are just as many (if not more). Every manufacture has it's lemons. Like I said, the sludge is an issue that effects maybe 1% of Toyota owners, the stories you have don't even represent a fraction of a percent.

It's not like the big three haven't had problems. Everybody knows the story of the Ford Pinto; the car which would explode if hit too hard. Instead of doing a recall Ford decided the potential deaths would cost less. In the 90s Ford was the company with lots and lots of recalls, and there was also the Firestone issue. I've seen people complain about the A4LD transmission, does that mean all Rangers and Fords are junk? Heck no, I like my Ranger, and I bet there are people in this forum that have had no problems with their A4LD.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse.

I dont deny that Ford, GM, Chrysler have had there fair share of crap - My point is that Toyota has too.

The only difference is that Toyota owners will not admit that there cars are not infallible (I suppose there are some Ford Chevy owners like that too) but my mom's Camry is one of many many many vehicles affected by poor engineering, the Sheriff in California and his family that died in a blazing wreck because of a maldesigned throttle computer / mechanism is proof that they ARE Fallible.

Toyota can buy up all the google hits hiding any stories involving the throttle/brake/headlight issue they want and spend 10 million dollars a day advertising - in the end there cars can suck just as much as anyone elses union built or not.

You want to compare numbers of cars affected by recalls in the past decade? You'll find that the 'big three' recalls FAR outnumber the foreign marques.

Away with thee, troll.

is that per unit sold or just raw numbers?

Toyota is a global giant. That is, they're American, Canadian, Mexican, Japanese, West Indian, Indian, and the list goes on.

Everytime you purchase a Toyota Camry, you are saving the environment, U.S jobs (toyota hires more americans than GM and Ford combined)

Toyota has been with us for so long that it has become a part of us... Toyota is American. They hire americans, they source raw materials from american firms and they work in american plants. what more do u want?

He simply wants a name that started as American. That's how things USED to be 30 years ago and someone has told him that's the only way to go. Likely an older family member or just UAW propaganda.

You know what? One thing ticks me off about Ford....My wife's brother-in-law up in Ohio works at the plant there. He has now been there over 24 years. He works on the assembly line. SIX YEARS AGO his wife bragged about his pay at the time. She does not have to work. She has a BA and a Masters degree and a real estate licence and still does not have to work. They slipped out and said that he makes over $90,000 a year and was working a 4 day work week. Ahhhh!!! That was six years ago.

But get this!!! Last summer my wife's sister and husband from Tampa went to visit for three weeks. My wife's brother-in-law in Ohio went to work every morning and then came back after about an hour. Every day he did this for three weeks. My wife's sister asked if he was getting vacation time off to spend time with them. He said 'No. I go in and punch the clock and then come home. I get paid and I have somebody punch the clock for me when they go home. I do the same for them when they don't want to work a full day. As long as somebody sees my face for a bit, I am legally there. That's because I am a union worker'!!!!

Ahhhh, this is a rip off to the company. Union workers??? This just pisses me off. Most of us would be out of a job if we pulled that!!!!!

Maybe the money to stay here in the US rather than going to Asia where they dislike Americans.
Judging by the age of the vehicles you claim to have you aren't helping the situation one bit either.
Those who buy foreign vehicles have no right to EVER criticize outsourcing jobs to asia.

that is just wrong for any person to do, not just Ford employees.
thats the bad side of Unions.
i know sometimes the employees must organize themselves to ask for better treat from the company, but then they cross the line and start acting worse than the company.
when the company shuts down because they went broke for paying to people like that, what will they do?

Yes!! That's exactly how I feel about that!! Amen to that, Bro!! Some people just think they can do what they want to their company. It hurts everyone in the long run!!!

You again have failed to understand that they hire Americans AND source MORE American parts. Remember that the "foreign" car companies don't get to make a car in Mexico (ahem, Fusion) and call it domestic. NAFTA doesn't cover Toyota, Nissan, Honda, ect. Furthermore, I can't even begin to explain to you how publicly traded companies disperse profits to stockholders and the profit really goes to them and business expansion which Toyota and others are actually spending HERE.

The problem is folks like you that don't even understand the economics of the auto business and just make snap decisions based on 30+ year old information.

Blame the foreign automakers. It's the first and last page of the UAW crisis handbook.

Labor Unions get semi skilled workers benefit packages that come out to $70 an hour........what a world.
