Hey, I just did headgaskets on my 2.9, and at first i had steam coming out the exhaust at operating temperature, but after its first outing it stopped. So i figured it was all good. But today my uncle was driving behind me for a while and later told me that i had white smoke during acceleration. its definatley not oil, but how could it be water? when i first had it steaming, it only did it at idle. so im a little confused. any input?

could be the lower intake gasket.... or bad head gasket.

sometimes... the tranny vac modulator can suck tranny fluid into upper intake making vast amount of smoke too

might be that you just need to re-torque the head bolts.

ok well what torque spec should i use for the bolts now? (since the last step for installation is just to turn 90 degrees, no specific torque.)

It could just be that its getting colder out, if it isn't a ton of smoke that would be my guess seeing as it only does it accelerating. Its just moist air. Altough it could still be the gasket (improper torque?) also could be a cracked head too check and see if the cooling system is getting pressurized ect.

Are you loosing any coolant??

If so maybe it time to get a dye (found in most parts stores), & get your cooling system pressure checked...see where the dye eeks out with a black light.

yes with cooler mornings.....& at 1st start up, you'll see condensation emit from the tailpipe in form of white exhaust. this should go away after the engine is up to temp.

well i just went out and checked... im down about 3/4" of coolant in the reservoir after only 100 miles... oh boy, i think its 347 stroker time!!!
