1993 FORD ranger 4x4 stx 4.0, 5 speed manual... im thinking input shaft bearing b ut not sure maybe throwout?, whines in first and second but almost non-stop it sounds like a worn out bearing noise just driving..... any thoughts?

Have you checked the oil lately? You may have a bad pocket bearing. Is it hard to shift sometimes and does the whining go away on 4th gear?

yes it goes away in 4th gear but do u know that forsure because when its in neutral with clutch out it makes this horrible chattering noise, push clutch in and its quiet... fluid is good.

whats the pocket bearing and where is it?..... i was thinking input shaft bearing but not sure

holy crap i have an almost identical problem, first and second has a strange sound like a whining, 3rd has more of a chattering sound, 4th and 5th are smooth as can be.

yeah dude you have the same problem i do and i am pretty sure its not your throw out bearing cuz i had the same problem and i thought it was that too but nope the tranny is shot.from what people have told me its the input shaft.

The Pocket Bearing is the bearing that allows the input and mainshaft to spin freely while the truck is running and in nuetral. This bearing usually fails when the transmission oil gets low. You need to disassemble the trans and take the main shaft and input shaft out. By the time you can get to it you would need an input and mainshaft anyway.

The noise should be more prominant in the first 3 gears. If you can get yours a aprt and fixed you shouldn't need the input shaft ot the main shaft. Both should be within specs so you just could put new barings in.

Not to be a prude man but, capatilization and and spaces between your sentences would make your post a whole lot easier to read. Anyway what the "people" have told you is only partly correct. Your input shaft was probably junk but that was not the culprit. The pocket bearing fails due to low oil and that is your culprit.

getting mine fixed by the tranny shop for $125 after i pull the tranny out and take it in

Thats pretty cheap. I am still looking for another transmission. Mine is out of the truck, and when you spin the input shaft it clanks.
