which f150 should I get?

I've got a 99 f150 with the 4.6 and its got 256000 miles on it. Loades tge bed down with around 500 lbs of scrap iron nd didn't notice it, not alotta weight but it still move around good and will burry the speedo. Haven't pulled anything with it yet, only complaint is id trade tge 3.55 for some 4.10s

I had 1200 lbs. in mine over the weekend. It felt just as spunky with it in there. It sagged more than I would have liked, but power wise it was great!

And yeah, cam phasers are a big problem. Mine has it. Sounds like a 6.0L diesel at idle. Really pisses me off, but the dealership told me they don't care. "It's just a bad design" they say. Sounds like this "bad design" needs to be recalled. Feels great buying a new truck with 19,000 miles on it and having internal engine problems.

Its definately not compared to the 3.slow my old 99 ranger had but being that Im at alot higher altitude than most of you guys I wish I would have got the 5.4. Around town towing or hauling its fine with any load but as soon as I start going up i-70 into the mountains with any kind of load, the old 4.6 falls on its face.

Just curious, what part of Colorado are you in? In SLC, we are at about 4300 feet.

westminster area roughly 5500ft, any where I want to go to ride or wheel I got to go up in elevation, sometimes seeing 10500ft+ Got to love them rockies.

Absolutely. I don't know what I'd do if I weren't wedged between two mountains!

But I agree, the extra 1200 feet you are above me would probably bog you down a lot! I've only had my F150 for 3 or 4 weeks, and I've only hauled one 1200 pound load for about 5 miles. It will be interesting to see when I get a good load in it and go uphill.

the only 4.6 i've drove had 4.10s and 33's.. i loved it. so does the owner. he's owned both and he actually prefers the 4.6 for his use, which is mostly dd w/ some towing occasionally. his towing is a car hauler w/ a jeep tj on it. he says it pulls from here to superlift just fine.. the only ford he'd trade it for was a 250 w/ a diesel, he says..
