which carb do you guys prefer for more power

The tuning was due to running em with a points ignition. It was the points all along, not the carb's fault. That's where running multiple carbs got such a bad rep.

Just playing devils advocate but wouldn't that effect all carbs too?

When they screw up on my single barreled tractor running at less than 2k RPM it is very noticable...

The Weber/Edelbrock carbs are for guys who have no clue on how to put on a carb and get it dialed in for their engine correctly. The Holley's are for the guys that want the power, performance, reliability & fuel milage all in one carb. I bought a 79 Mustang coupe that had a Weber/Edeljunk on it and it ran ok and took it off bolted on a Holley 600 vac, sec, and holly cow the power and throttle responce was great. Now to be fair I did try to dial in the Weber/Edeljunk and like I said it ran ok but it couldnt, wouldnt and never will ever match what a Holley could do. I took that Weber/Edeljunk carb which was new and thru it up in the air as high as I could to watch it smash on the ground and did that a few times and then my mini sledge finished it off. I didnt want any one else to ever have to deal with such a POS carb so I made sure they couldnt use it. Edelbrock makes some very nice products and their quality is very nice but I just cant figure out why they would put their name on such a POS and give them selfs a black eye like that. The only thing better then a Holley carb is EFI and that is becuse way to many guy can't tune a Holley in so they should stay away from carbs all together.

I see you haven't had a Holley in quite some time. They need no maintenence, other than clean fuel & filters. And the gaskets they've used for at least the last ten years don't shrink.

Damn, guess it is starting to show my age a little I guess EFI has been around a while, time to get back to the good ol days and build a carbed engine again. Maybe my next project.

Holley three barrel? Just for you old timers who might remember! No opion myself but had good luck with all the Holleys.

Yea I remember them Holley 930cfm 3 barrels. The secondarys were just one big oval butterfly. We had one on a 427 big block shitrolet. That carb worked great.

Not that I'm an expert on this topic or anything, but i bolted my holley carb on and the only thing I had to adjust was the idle screw. I also have worked in a machine shop for the past 2 summers and everyone who works there that has tried to use an edlebrock carb has had problems with them.

You nailed it. After toying with carbs over the past 35 years, I finally realized it was almost always an ignition problem when a motor started behaving badly, not the carb "being out of adjustment".

I agree with timing/ignition issues masking themselves as a carb problem. Still kinda like points from the point of easy to fix/replace on the long trip thru the desert, if there's a failure. The most overlooked problem being adjusting the vacuum advance timing on the distributor to eliminate detonation under a load in high gear/rpm.

Edit: CarterAFB please. Alot less Voodoo than Holley style.

Well I have ran many Holleys, and still build and setup several every year for circle racers there is none better, with that said on my own cars I now run fuel injection only simply because of ease of driving and simple upkeep, I would rather work on someone elses carb and get paid...
