Where to find a 98 3L y-pipe

So I'm putting another brand new remanufactured motor in my truck because the first company's (whom I'm not allowed to mention their name anymore because of the lawsuit we settled) first engine made it 900 miles, second engine 3,000 miles, and the third and final engine 17,000 miles before a camshaft bearing exploded. Anyway my exhaust forever had a week where the wide pipe met them around folds because my original one was all pitted and rusted and I bought a fabricated one on eBay and the fabricator had the pipe coming too far up into the ball socket and so the manifold was hitting the lip and not sealing all the way. So I would preferably like to buy a brand new one from a reputable company but as far as I can tell nobody sells brand new y pipes for 98 3L. From all the pictures I seen it looks like the 4L y-pipe is identical but I've never seen one in person. I'm not talking about the ones with the cats built into it I'm talking about just the straight pipe one with the two O2 ports. Does anyone know if their interchangeable? And please don't give me all the same stupid answers of "I would just go to a U-Pull-It and get one" or "did you check eBay and Craigslis?" Or "just go have one fabricated at an exhaust shop". If I wanted to do any of those options I would have. I would like to buy a brand new one never been touched or used before.

According to Walker, 98 had converters in the y-pipe. I'd bet it was more likely a transition year.

Unfortunately all earlier 3.0 y-pipe seem to be unavailable. AP/Eastern and Walker both make 4.0 y-pipes but say they don't fit the 3.0 Some of them are listed on E-Bay for 3.0/4.0, but if you look at the list of compatible vehicles it shows 97 Ford Ranger 3.0 (with 4.0 engine only). LOL

The one 3.0 I remember working on had more an H shape than Y.

Wish I could be more help. Maybe buy one for the 4.0 and modify as/if needed?

I'm in the same boat regarding the Y pipe. I desperately want to pull my transmission to throw in a rear main seal but I know the Y pipe flanges will not survive. Pipes and cats are in decent shape, but the flanges have lost half their thickness and fused in rust with its mating flange.

AP/Eastern has the cheaper EPA compliant Y pipe for $309 that I might just buy and use as a jig.

Yes see my y pipe doesn't have the cats on it they're separate after it connects at the bottom. All the pictures I see that say 98 3.0L/4.0L look like the exact correct size and shape for mine so I think I'm just going to buy that and see if it fits and then if it doesn't make them return it for free and say that they listed it incorrectly because I don't have any other choice really

those are not stupid answers.

that is the state of reality in the readily available market..

the best way to get a brand new that has never been touched before y pipe.......you know...new one that works better than anything that ever left a ford assembly line, is to have a competent exhaust shop make one.

you will get that, and depending on material....potentially cheaper then anything you will buy pre made. and it will be done a an hour or so.


the absurdity in your statement is its own hell.

that said, there is definitely a NOS 3.0 y pipe out there somewhere....from free to 300 bux.

good luck finding it in an expedient manner of time verses money.

Aftermarket Y pipes are the same for 3.0 and 4.0. They're both 60deg V6s with "close enough I can't find a difference" manifold locations. Ford might've made the shape slightly different or something but in any case the aftermarket has figured out how to do it with one pipe. This is why you "can't find" 3.0 Y pipes. Nobody is making one that only fits a 3.0
