Overstock and blems, can't beat them for the money on a new name brand tire.

I paid $125/tire for overstock 255/75-17 BFG MT KM1's last spring, and I love them.

I think freight was like $15/tire, but I got together with some friends and got a pallet that holds 8 tires for $80 ($10/tire)

Unless it is something unusual, I just buy whatever the little mom & pop place have on their shelves. The guys come outside with floor jacks and I'm out of there in 30 minutes. These are poor people that work extremely hard for a living. I'm not buying tires on-line and bring to them for them to swap. It costs a little more, but if I can help these people eat and pay their bills by going there, I prefer that.

I just had some mud tires (Dayton brand, I think) put on my Chevy pickup (235/85-16), bought a tire for my trailer after it disintegrated under the load of my dozer and bobcat, and had a slow leak fixed on my wife's car--$800 for all of that. I was done it 30 minutes.

I've had special tires mounted by them form equipment, but if they have something close, I buy theirs. I hate seeing boarded windows.

I have gotten some from 4wheelparts.com. The have good prices and most times a set of 4 ships for $80. Otherwise just do some phone shopping locally for the best deal once you know what ties and size you want.

thanks guys, and yes i do prefer to buy from a mom and pop shop but they cant get the tires i want so i gotta outsource.

my dad and brother have been real happy with www.tirecrawler.com good prices and fair shipping. Had a pair of 33/10.50/16's BFG MT'S delivered to the door for around $650 if i remember correct, come time that's probably who i'll go through when i need them. Around here all we have is the Schwab-job's, and they can't produce a round tire to save their a$$!

If you buy online then the tire installation is additional.....add $40-$60.....not to mention the $60-$80 shipping charge.
If a tire has a problem then you'll have to ship it back......more money wasted.
I would rather pay more and buy it local and if there is a problem, take it back.
Sure if the tire size is exotic then you stand to save a bunch by going online but the standard sizes are cheaper to go local.

Best way to go in my opinion, is hit up the local tire shops, and check for something old.... discontinued... ect. This stuff has been taking up shelf space for a long time, and they will more than likely like to get rid of it. I'm not saying that they are going to give them to you, but you can probably haggle 40 bucks a tire off. Another thing too, is ask their opinion, if you come in and start asking them what would work for what you want, ie, offroad, all terrain, highway / city, they feel you respect their opinion. At the tire store i work at, we have a points system, and I'm sure most have this. Points are your mark up, and its strictly a choice when they are adding tires to a work order. So if they feel you respect their opinioin, they may give you a small break that way. It's hit or miss when it comes to that strategy. Worst comes to worst, find someone with a decent name in town, head into their suggested shop, drop a name, and hope for the best.

I still have yet to find a deal online that beats what you can find locally. Online tire shops are a joke. Usually you can find a deal where tires sell and are mounted AND balanced for 7 bucks above cost. I've been on the wrenching side of this industry, and I know they aren't fudging the pricing on the tires. I got my Firestone Destination A/T set for $12 less per tire than I would have if I bought from TireRack. Didn't have to pay additional for shipping, mounting, and balancing. AND... I get free tire rotations.

I get mine from the local wal-mart, i dis-like there retail demons but the warranty is UN beatable. I get the good year wrangler's (31-10.5-15) for 133 a tire. with the free replacement of stem's, and free puncture replacement and patch jobs. I live in mesquite thorn country, so that is a wallet saver. here is the link, http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wrangler-Authority/11983156
