Wheel Bearings.....is there a difference?

i work at autozone, DO NOT EVER buy ANYTHING from autozone with valucraft on it. people are always bringing valucraft back b/c it's a POS.....especially the belts.

most of the duralast stuff is ok and alot of it has a lifetime warranty.

These Timken bearings are the cats ass. I really like them. The only problem now is I can hear some sounds now that the bearing noise was covering up.

Oh, and I wish there was a sealed bearing option on this thing. I like the newer ones (98 and up) better myself, I'd rather replace one of those any day.

glad u had good things to say that would explain why my factories are still goin strong lol

The RP5707 is a bearing seal kit that i used, purchased at Kragen/Orilley's, this allows the bearing to ride on a different portion of the spindle.
Notice that the bearing and seal are all one unit.
I actually bought the individual seal and kit to give me time to weigh the option on which one i would use.

I found one very similar to one of those in my rear end in the spring. The seal was bad. You CANNOT get that seal. No one knew WTH it was. Its also a bitch to take back out. I had to torch it some and hit it with a impact chisel.

I replaced it with standard motorcraft bearing and seal which not only went in perfectly so did the seal.

I am glad I read this seeing as I just ordered bearings from AutoZone. Had to go back and look at my order to make sure I ordered the Timkens which luckily I did...

I've always bought Timken for my Mustang. But I when they asked me if I wanted the cheaper bearings, I thought about it but decided to ask. I had my mind made up thanks to the good folks on here. But honestly, if I had bought the chinese Valucraft bearings, I would have taken them back when I saw the crappy metal they are made of. The PO of my truck had put them in there. JUNK!

That is a repair bearing for the rear axle for when the bearing surface on the axle shaft gets buggered up. That has nothing to do with his front wheel bearings?!

I agree that has nothing to do with the front wheel bearings but must disagree that the bearing seal combo is for "buggered up shafts" that simply is not completly accurate.
you can switch back and forth with individual seal and bearing at your will, all this does is cause the bearing to ride on a different surface on the spindle.

Yes it is completely accurate. Those are designed to be used in the case that you have a shaft with a bad bearing surface, as you just said yourself. Hence why it is known as a repair bearing. They server no other purpose and are really a last ditch effort to save from buying a new shaft (which is the proper repair).

One should consider any axle with over 100,000 miles this repair when having to remove the axle for any reason. Im not saying this is a must but should be taken into consideration due to the wear on the axle that will have taken place by then.
