so my grandmothers 02 chevy venture mini van needs a right side wheel bearing. from what i kno these are unit bearings. how hard are they to do? its been a while since ive done one and i need someone to refresh my memory on how to do them. i can only afford to do the one thats makeing noise. is this ok?

Wheel bearings are pretty easy to do. If your van has a sealed wheel bearing that includes the wheel bearing and the studs in one unit, it will be easy.

1. First, take off the tire.
2. Remove the brake caliper bracket and caliper assembly.
3. Remove the brake rotor
4. There is a big nut in the center. It is a pretty big size, maybe 26, 32mm? Something like that. Soak it down with penetrating oil. Remove nut.
5. Using a dead blow hammer, hit the threaded part of the CV axle until it starts to move back and forth.
6. I think there are 3 bolts on the backside of the wheel bearing assembly. Loosen and remove these.
7. Disconnect any sensors attached to the wheel bearing assembly.
8. Remove wheel bearing assembly.
9. Install new bearing assembly.

It is pretty straight forward, nothing too hard. The only part that might give you trouble is loosening the big nut or getting the CV axle free from the wheel bearing assembly.

Hope this helps!

Should be a 32mm socket for the axle. Its not too bad changing out the bearing; I helped my uncle do his a couple of months ago.

sweet thanks a bunch! this sounds just as easy as doing wheel bearings on my old d28 and d35 TTB's
