Whats the best air down PSI?

06 ranger how old are you?!?!?!?!?!?

but anywho id be very careful what you plan on going through one wheel wonder, even through muddy water is gunna be havac for you (especially with those tires you got)

make sure you know your limits if i were you id find a really cheap 4x4 to put tires on for your offroading just my $.02

Ouch, enough with the flaming!

But anyway, for the OP:

You have a radial all-terrain - airing down isn't really going to change a thing unless they are over-inflated for the truck to begin with. But even that advantage would be minimal. 25-30 psi would be about where it is, there is absolutely no advantage to going to a lower pressure with those tires.

IF you were running a set of Swampers on the rear (or some other really aggressive tire, or some old-school bias-ply tires), then yes, airing down significantly can be a benefit off-road.

One way I was able to have a little fun with my 2wd Ranger (before I got any 4x4 trucks) was to get a cheap set of steel rims, spray-bomb 'em black, and mount up some more aggressive tires. Then I'd just swap 'em over when I'd need 'em. A good mud tire on the back or Swamper will make a BIG difference even with it being a 2wd.

But yea, there really is no substitute for having a cheap beater 4x4 to play with and a nice truck to go on dates or to work. I stopped playing off-road with my Ranger when I got a 4x4 toy to play with. For the record, I have never spent more than $340 to buy a Bronco II to play with. Some needed more work than others, but as my choptop sits I have around $1,650 total into it.

Enough of the flaming! if you cant be decent get the hell out of his thread. Its about time for the banhammer anyways.

Your talking about a mild trail with water maybe? You have absolutley no reason to air down. None whatsoever. Run about 25-30 psi and like said above stay on the gas. Stopping is sticking. Never ever ever stop, momentum is your best friend. Take a tow rope and do everything you can to get it stuck so you can learn the limits of your truck. Its two wheel drive with open diff? So youll be pushing with one wheel inevitably. Your other disadvantage is the KO's. they are (even brand new) a cunt hair better than bald tires in the mud. Your gonna have to do some good driving to stay unstuck. Seriously DONT AIR DOWN.

sounds good :icon_thumby: i do have a LS rear end though. id never try this with open diffs. i know this by the axle code and the forum tech section. :icon_cheers:

Remember though that it is a 'limited slip' and as such does slip at times, especially when they get older....

I like the idea aboutthe spare tires and cheap rims. Even just two of them as big mudders on the front would be shooting yourself in the foot. BUt a set of narrow boggers or similar in hte rear would be a bangup mod.
