Whats the beef with step sides

My truck had a stepside bed when I got it, and did for about a year and a half. I liked how handy the step was, and the fact that I had absolutly no problem beating the shit out of it, because I never had any intention of keeping it. When I bought my new bed, I held up the fleetside tailgate to the stepside bed, and theres a good 8 inches of bed you lose. If the looks and the step are more important to you than the bed space, then that's fine, but I like the look of the fleetside better, and all the extra room.

As for the 2wd/4wd debate that somehow started in a thread about beds, if you don't need 4x4, then you don't need it. Some people offroad with 2wd and do just fine, but you will never get the same capabilities you get with 4x4. As for me, I live in an area where it snows quite a bit, to the extent that there is not much of a point in owning a 2wd truck arouind here, unless you have something else to drive in the winter, or stay inside until the salt kicks in. But that's just me, I like the feeling of more control and grip you get with it.

I have a step side and perfectly happy with it. I still haul stuff with my step side.I also get told a lot by other truck owners randomly to get rid of my step side bed and get a fleet side bed for my truck blah blah blah..... My truck does everything a fleet side can do for the most part. I also have a trailer to use if I haul anything big anyways. Fleet side or step. If it's to big for your bed,it doesn't matter which style ya have!

The only reason people buy a 2wd is because they cant afford a 4wd, anyone who thinks/says a 2wd is just as or more able then a 4wd is just plain retarded, jesus christ why would you even say that, doesnt even make sense, you must live in the city and walmart wheel. Id go for a 4x4 on bald ass tires anyday over a 2wd with mud terrains, jesus im still laughing, let alone anyone who lifts a 2wd hahah WTF?

STFU and/or GTFO.

If it wasn't for the bald tires my g/fs 2wd s-10 would keep up with my 4x4 ranger in any thing that ground clearance allowed for.

There is a whole social group on this site for people who lifted their 2wds, and no, its not just for people who can't afford the 4x4. Some people, Matt being a prime example, genuinely have NO NEED for it. I live in Northeast PA, I barely have a need for it. The last time I actually NEEDED my 4x4 to get out of something I was in a ditch, off the side of the road, in 1.5 feet of snow, with 3 wheels off the ground.

I am not a walmart wheeler. There aren't really any wheeling trails around here, and being my DD (and the fact that I walk more than I drive right now) my truck sees more road time than it does trail time, but back home she saw lots of trail time. Especially during hunting season. My ranger couldn't make it up the one trail to the parking area without 4x4. My dad's 150 and my uncle's GM 2500 elk truck both always made it up the 2 wheel.

I recommend, very highly, that you go back to my original post in this thread, read the quote from good ol'e Ben Franklin ( a very wise man, constantly striving for self-improvement, an endeavor you may want to consider embarking on) and shut up before you make yourself look like more of an idiot.

Stepsides on rangers should be banned, and 2wd banned as well, i duno why someone would even want a 2wd truck, let alone think they are wheeling it.

Plenty of people here have wheeled with 2 wd lol.........

Also

I have a step side. Does that some how make it less of a Ranger than a fleet side?

Couldn't agree more. Not everyone wants a 4x4 or needs a 4x4 and that is their right.

Also if you are not brain dead yet from lack of common sense. You do realize most if not ALL 4x4 Rangers are 2 wheel drive until you engage the 4x4 right? So in fact, you are driving a 2 wheel drive lol

I had a buddy with a 2wd and perpetually outfitted with Mexican racing slicks, he always seemed to be able to follow us 4x4 guys where ever we went, never got stuck, even pulled some of the other 4x4 guys out a few times.

Just gotta know the limits of your truck, weather it be 2 wd or 4x4. It's that easy.

they look cool, depending on the trucks color imo
Ford stepsides are the best looking imo
toyota stepsides look so fugly

i carry lots of stuff so it just wont work with me
and the styleside keeps the bodylines, and its stronger
it looks more "truck" with a styleside imo

2wds promote better driving skills. Apparently you lack such skills. STFU.

Why get a 2wd? My ranger and explorer have same drivetrain minus the 4x4 in the explorer. Ranger goes 400 miles on a tank, explorer goes 200 on a tank. That's a big benefit of 2wd. Also, driving you wheeler sucks. Still gotta get to work on monday.

BTW, im lowering the 2wd in spring. I bet you just hate that....
