I am getting ready to extend my arms and was wondering what would be better for this application. Johnny joints or Heims i will be extending my arms with DOM and weld in inserts to install the heims or johnny joints. I do some rock crawling, trail riding, and little mud but I want this thing to get some better flex I am running a d35TTB with a lockrite and I currently have 4" of lift but bumping it up to 6" of lift

Any rebuildable joint would be a better choice than a heim/rod end in my opinion.

I'd stick with the stock style rubber bushing over any of them....much less maintenance, better ride quality.....if I had to pick between the 2 the i'd go johnny joints all the way.

yeah the arms will soak up more impact with some give to the bushing.though it might handle slightly better at road speeds with the hiems.my truck has hiems and i've wondered if a little rubber would have saved the alignment once or twice?

I think everyone will agree that johnny joints are the better choice due to the fact they are rebuildable and produce a somewhat better ride due to there being some sort of bushing.

When I get the JD lift,(whenever the hell that is) I'll be switching the hiem joints out with some johnny joints.

you guys bring up some good points on the stock bushings I think I will save some money and just do extend the arms and maintain the stock bushing

good call on the bushings, with the right bushing you can swing about 13inches up and 13 down from a netrual postion on the bushings with bushings.and when they wear out they are only 10 bucks vs 100 each

I have the duff bushings in my pivots and rad arms now the only question I have now is how do I go about making the new mount for the bushings

The duff kit uses hiem joints. That is if you have the extended RA's.

The johnny joints are a hiem joint with bushings, and is rebuildable.

Just find the right size of johnny joint to replace the duff hiem joints.

the poly bushings are crap.they get squashed apart if you flex much, rubber is much better for a radius arm bushing.it diden't take me long to kill them in my old duff stage 1 setup

Hows it going guys!? 1st off great forum! lots of good input. Coming from a guy that runs through the desert a good quality hiem is definitely the way to go (7/8 min on a radius arm). I have been using FK for years and for the past year I have been running Light racing hiems. I have been very pleased with them and have lasted longer then any hiem I have ever used. After a full season and some daily driving they are still in new condition. The FKs I used to run worked great but they are much more expensive I would lose liners once in a while which is pretty normal for a desert truck that cruises at high speed in the rough for 200 miles plus. Any ways thats what I would recommend. Johnny Joints would not last nearly as long in a desert toy.
