What years offer 3l and 4x4?

While searching for a new truck, I came across a ranger with 4x4 with a 3.0l. I was under the impression that you could only get 4x4 with the 4.0l.This one was a 1999, what other years offer the 4x4 and the 3.0l combo?

I'm pretty sure the 3.0 was available in 4x4 trucks throughout its entire run...

4x4 doesnt really have much to do with engine size. Ive had 2,9s and 3.0s in 4wd, you could get 4 bangers, 2.8s, 2.9s, 3.0s, and 4.0s like you said

oh i seen so many 4l 4x4 and they were so common i thought it was just them

I had a 2000 3.0 Supercab 4x4... and for what it was worth it was a dog... had no nut at all. Got good fuel mileage though. Averaged 19, but going any faster than 65 the mileage dropped considerably. Going 75, i got about 14mpg... In my 4.0 going 80, I get about 20 or 21 mpg... goofy ain't it?

I honestly would, but it depends on what you're doing. Like I said, the 3.0 was good because of its fuel mileage around 60mph... but for me, I would rather have the power of the 4.0. Doing my 60mph driving, I get an average of 17mpg on a tank... but in the winter, it drops to about 11 or 12, even if I don't use 4wd that much. The 3.0 got about 15 in the winter. Its really a tossup... Power or fuel mileage? However, if you get a manual 4.0, I've seen people get an average of 20 with it, just because they are able to drive it well.

well currently i have the 4cyl and its a dog on the hills. i would be using the truck for highway travel and the reason i want a bigger motor is for the hills and for doing some light duty towing, and the 4x4 is because of the big chances of traveling in the winter during storms. so I am thinking the 3l 4x4?

Well, either a 3.0 or 4.0 would work... if you get the 4.0m get a manual if you can, that will help mileage.. it would help the 3.0 too.

Either one should work fine, but if you daily drive it most of the time, get the 3.0.

No problem, whatever you do end up getting you shouldn't be disappointed with the truck. Both engines are good, the 3.0 is about as bullet proof as a 5.9 cummins and the 4.0 is pretty good too.

If you do lots of commuting get the 3.0. I have a 3.0 4x4 with manual, and I get awesome mileage. I'm usually around 20,21 city and about 25,26 highway. Haven't had it through winter yet though, thats my summer mileage. As for power, I don't floor it ever, especially city driving, so a less powerful engine has never bothered me. As a bonus, if you want crazy reliability as already mentioned, you'll get it with the 3.0

Yeah I hardly notice a difference between my 3.0L and a 4.0L but that wasn't towing anything. they both had decent accel and what not. But I get an average of 18 in town and 20 - 25 highway give or take how fast I drive and stuff all with a manual and oversized tires.

The 3.0 came in around 96 or 97. I had a 99 3.0 4x4 Supercab, as mentioned above it was good on gas for a 4x4 but slow as molasses, and mine was a stick. After the 4.0 SOHC replaced the 4.0 OHV (in 01 I think) then the 3.0 was the only engine available in 4x4 Regular Cabs and the 4.0 SOHC was the only engine available in 4x4 Supercabs.
