So I am getting things together to swap my fm146 in my 88 xlt 4x4 to a M5OD-HD out of an 09 4x4. I have the bigger clutch, new slave new flywheel (6 bolt 10 inch) new pilot bearing and new starter and I’m making a custom mount for the 4x4 shifter linkage. My question is about the block plate for the back of the engine. Will a block plate from any 4.0 with a manual transmission work with my 2.9? I was going to try to find one from a 90s model with the ohv but would the block plate from the 09 4.0 work as well? The bigger original type of starter that’s on my 2.9 will not work with the larger 4.0 flywheel correct? Any advice is appreciated, thanks

AFAIK all manual 4.0 block plates and starters are the same. (Or at least compatible. Guessing the one bolt hole moved same as the transmission bell housing with the SOHC.) The flywheel only changed for the bolt pattern on the crankshaft. (Does anybody know why? I know it was around the same time as the SOHC.)
