I used a craftsman clicker for 25 years, then I redid my 4.0l heads and had to do them again after 9 months, found out old reliable wasn't reliable any more, lol, when it was clicking at 60ft/lb it was really 40ft/lb
BUT.....I did find out a way to test these so you can be sure they are accurate at different ft/lb settings.
You need a vise mounted on a solid surface.
And some known weight values, I used free weights, but you can use a bucket and measuring cup, "Pint is a pound the world around", still remember that from grade school
8 pints in a gallon, so a gallon of water is 8lbs
Clamp ratchet square in vise so wrench is sideways, so pushing down on the handle would cause a "click" if torque setting is reached
rotate torque wrench so handle is horizontal
Measure from center of ratchet out on handle 12"(1ft)
If handle is too short put a pipe on it to get to 12" or use 6" and twice the weight
Mark the 12" spot
Now set the torque wrench for a weight you want to test(clicker type) say 25ft/lb
Hang 25lbs at the 12" mark(25ft/lbs), you should hear the click.
Now remove the weight and set wrench for 30ft/lb
Hang 25lb weight again, should have no click, slight push down on the handle should cause click.
repeat for whatever torque settings you use the most
