I'm having some major problems with my 1994 Ford Ranger v6 4.0. I just got back from the mechanic shop to find out my cylinder heads need to be replaced and just recently also my transmission is on its 3rd failure. I've basically had it with the motor and transmission thats on it. My question is there a diffrent motor/trans combo that I can put it. Either an old motor or newer style that won't give me so much problems. Please let me know what you guys have done.

Thanks

Can you give more detail? Is it an auto or manual? How many miles? How is it driven? etc etc.....

Mine has never given me trouble. Just turned 186,000 miles and still even have the factory clutch in it.

Give us more information. The 4.0 heads are known to crack but there are sites on the net that can improve them some.

It's an A4LD auto transmission with about 180k as well. No major hauling, just your everyday commuting. My heads have cracked twice in between the intake and exhaust valves. My transmission is slipping pretty bad and leaking through the front seal once it gets to running temp. I just want this vehicle for the weekend errands I have to to. I'm looking for a economical way of changing the whole setup. Please let me know what I can put in my truck with minimal effort.

Thanks
