What to do with aging explorer

Goodluck with the exploder!

they are nothing to brag about MPG wise, but otherwise very versitile vehicles =)

goodluck!

Hey man, my ex hasn't exploded yet LOL! Yeah, I didn't buy it for the mpg's ;)

I have literally only found 1 time that getting a "new" car was more cost efficient (in any reasonable amount of time) than fixing the old one.

In that case the owner was spending $100 more a month than her payments on the new car.

Also, you got taken to the cleaner on those tires. At the dealership I can put a good set of tires in the right size on your Ex for $550, tops.

keep it and build a nice daily driver/ weekend warrior
the 4.0 is an awesome motor!! will last forever with the proper care. the 8.8 and d35 axles are stout to. the 8.8 is highly wanted by the jeep world for a reason, if you can break it... then you can build it with superior 88 kit. but the 1st gen ex's are awesome! i'd like to find one myself to have something a lil bigger than my b2

Hey 4.0, if I can come up with a decent 1st gen ex, would you do a straight up trade?

oh no, i couldn't trade off my b2. i love it to much. i'd cry lol. i'm looking to maybe add on to the fleet.

Yeah, I like my ex. Just was wanting to decide what i wanted to do with it. I think I'm going to keep it. At least for now.

Really? Oh man. So much for my tire shop! LOL! We even have an account there. Guess maybe that's why I paid so much geez.

What the hell size tires did you get for 800 bux? What brand?

I got them from les schwab tires. Stock size. Toyo open country at's.

Oh, THAT'S why. Toyo's are expensive out the wazoo.

Ya. I didn't get the least expensive ones cuz I wanted a tire that would last longer. These ones have more mileage coverage than the cheaper toyos.

keep your truck! my ranger 4.0 has over 300,000 on it now and i havent put a dollar into the engine since i bought it 3 years ago except spark plugs, air filter, and some vacuum tubing, and it hasnt given any signs of giving up yet :headbang:

gawd, geez. FOr 800 bux You could have bought 60k-80k BFG at's AND winch for when you get stuck with them. Its 50/50 people opinions of them, mud snow etc. But EVERYONE agrees that BFG gets awesome mileage. They last forever. and you might have only spent what 500 with mount and balance?

Keep it. If you take it camping then you'll be upset with how a newer one does off-road compared to your old one. Plus, suspension and brake parts are cheaper on yours. I don't think you have anything to worry about with the tranny, just replace the clutch when it comes time. You can buy complete clutch kits for a 4.0 for like $150-$300 depending on brand.
