So I'm bidding on this truck

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...parms=tab=Bidding&item=280310348325&viewitem=

and I asked for some pics of the frame, I noticed theres a piece of wood or what looks like a piece of wood bolted to it.

what the!?!?!?!

what the hell is it doing there?

Sure as $hit its not supposed to be there...

Looks like they had something mounted to it..

Didn't you hear it stiffins up the frame and adds 10 hp. LOL. it could be there so when its wheeled you bust the wood before you bust up the bumper imo

The wood is nowhere near the axle. There's no way it could protect it. It looks like its holding the radiator in or something. Check out those rusty screws and washers holding it in. Definitely a half-assed repair. The hose clamps on the tranny lines aren't even the right size. Unless you can check this out in person, I'd keep looking.

Or you could always just ask what it was for?

Looks like what it's mounted to is not OEM either.

I hate being irresponsible on ebay but I figured if the carfax checks out its one owner, the miles are correct, and theres virtually no rust that I would avoid this kinda $h!t. I don't see why the hose clamps are the wrong size or why that "wood beam" (idk what it is it looks like timber in the photo) would be bolted in, but I'm gonna have to either not pay or retract my bid so I dont @#$% myself...

"Their is no block of wood under this truck!!! The hose clamps you see go to the transmission cooler in the front. other than that everthing is stock! Their have been no repairs done to this truck. You should call me if you think their is some kind of a problem. 727-943-**** Rick"

didnt want to give out his phone number but that was the response.

Maybe a white piece of plastic thats dirty?

I'm curious now, I'll have to check under my truck to see if I see something similar to that.

well let me know, I don't want to screw this guy over if thats all it is.

Could have been a fleet vehicle too where there was something custom mounted or custom ordered. My dad has an ex fleet ranger. It has every single option that was available. But has manual windows. Go figure. Fleets special order weird sh*t sometimes.

Could just be odd colored oxidization. As far as the rusty screws, I've got a couple on my tailgate panel that are getting some surface rust, and they're stock, and I've never hauled anything that would corrode them. Although the moss that tends to grow on vehicles around here if you don't wash them regularly in this damp environment will eat the heck outta things!:annoyed:
As far as the big hose clamps, sometimes you just have to use what's handy in the toolbox!

look ing at the clamps and the cooler lines, id say they could have had an additional oil cooler mounted and hooked up to the surface somehow.

he's tellin me its the radiator condenser and they replaced the tranny line

The more I look, the more it doesn't look like wood... too smooth... looks like shiny metal with a reflection.
