Don't worry, it happens to the best of us...

So far I've managed to dodge doing it to my choptop... but it's been getting done piecemeal. My 88 BII might end up like that though...

what motor are you puting in? I too have an '88 Ranger XLT and my 2.9L blew...well FORD messed it up for me. It was doomed from the start. Now I need a new motor and can get a 4.0L from a 94 with an auto trans and I have a 5 speed but was wondering if its worth the hassel and how much of one it is.

I'm looking for a cheap (fuel) daily driver (what it was in the first place), have a replacement 2.9 for it, the transmission was toast as well, but I understand that this site has info on doing a 4.0 conversion for those that want more power.

Wow...that's pretty much what I did...stripped it down, sand blasted the frame, painted it different colours, and then dropped the engine and transmission on it...

My frame has been holding up pretty good since doing that...but managed to find some rust just behind the rear spring mount...

Looks good...I'd go with a turbo 4 if you can...

Mark, a turbo 4 would be great. but already have a replacement 2.9, when the original was working good, the gas mileage was very reasonable, but I see that a 4 would have been better.....

I'll post more photos as the re-build continues.
